Thinking of Caroline Kennedy; losing her father to an assasination when she was a child; watching her mother grieve her father’s horrific death; losing her brother suddenly in a plane crash and now her young daughter struck down my terminal cancer.
What is going on?? She is like the real life Meredith Grey. |

There are a lot of poor people with this kind of story too. In fact, the chances of this kind of life are much more common among the poor. Having your whole family killed in wars, famines, accidents, etc. happens in developing countries. During the height of the crack epidemic, having your whole family die from overdoses, shootings, and AIDS happened.
But they aren't Kennedys. |
| Some of this (not cancer and disease, but some of the rest of of it) has to do with seeking thrills. You don't run for president if you don't want thrills and risk because a lot of people will hate you. You don't pilot a private plane in a storm with minimal training if you aren't an overconfident thrill-seeker. |
|
Her mother also died of cancer at 64.
Caroline, who has never run for office or been known for seeking thrills, has lived through a lot of sorrow. And BTW, this isn’t the grief Olympics. One can feel sympathy for her and for families affected by other tragedies. |
|
They say the Kennedy Curse but a lot of families with money have great tragedies because they are able to do more dangerous activities without regulations than other “regular” people.

Her mother's death wasn't exceptionally young. For a woman born in the 1920s, the life expectancy was about 70 years, plus her mother was a heavy smoker. |
This. Obv poor Tatiana's cancer was random and not a result of her behavior. But a lot of the Kennedy deaths and tragedies are a result of a combo of access to wealth and no risk aversion genes. -JFK Jr Flying a plane: most of us can't afford that / many of us would not risk that -Kick Kennedy: flying around Europe during the early days of aviation - most would not have had that opportunity - and her rich partner pressured the pilot to fly despite bad weather - many would have looked at the weather and not gotten on the place or adhered to the pilot's initial warning not to fly -Rosemary's lobotomy - that was a new procedure and they had VIP access to it -Joe Jr's war place crash - he did not have to take that suicidal assignment -THe Kennedy who died on the slopes Playing football on skis - most people can't afford to ski - and the ski patrol probably would have made them stop if they weren't Kennedys - and most people are not only too risk averse to play football on skis but also too risk averse to ski -All the tragedies befalling the women connected with them - the women were drawn to them partially due to their money and power -etc |
The very wealthy and the very poor are least likely to have or care about any moral, social, and legal restrictions on their behavior. Hence the Kennedys acting the way they do. |
Oh, well, that’s ok then.
|
JFK Jr. should not have been flying a plane himself at night in those conditions. He was not supposed to fly at night or in foggy conditions given his limited training. |
Is this somehow supposed to affect how sympathetic people are allowed or should feel for Caroline? |
She was also a drug and alcohol addict. |
|
Another forum comment raised that this type of cancer can often be caught early and treated with bone marrow transplants. Given her access to medical care, has the family shared if she was not successful with the bone marrow transplant?
She’s had a child so recently as well, can that exacerbate this disease? |
Higher risk tolerance/lack of fear Driving drunk Distracted skiing Canoeing in unpredictable conditions Lots of adultery Getting away with stuff |
Also lots of substance abuse. |
