Etsy fiasco... how to handle?

Anonymous
I bought a midcentury modern wall sconce on Etsy from a reputable seller, or so I thought. The seller shipped via an outfit called SpeedX and it's been languishing at a facility for over a week after I got a notice that the item was in my town. There seems to be zero customer service save AI. I am so pissed!!

Reverse the charges on your credit card since the item was not delivered as promised.

Contact the seller for help.

1. Contact the seller. Ensure all communication I’d on the platform.
2. Give them a chance to make it right
3. Contact Etsy.
4. Etsy has returned all my money when the seller messed up. Just never email or pay separately. Etsy won’t honor that.

How is this a fiasco? Amazon Prime has ruined people's understanding of how shipping works.

Because the item ... did not arrive. How has Amazon Prime ruined this rather fundamental concept?

+1

OP, if tracking shows the item was shipped and is still in transit, you might just need to be a bit more patient.

The lag you’ve described isn’t necessarily a lost item—there’s a good chance it’s still being sorted for delivery. (I’ve had the same occur in the past year with several deliveries, which all did arrive eventually.)

If the item hasn’t arrived by the estimated due date, reach out to the seller for clarification and to additionally document that it hasn’t arrived. If they won’t resend or refund the item within a reasonable amount of time, then reach out to Etsy for assistance.

I sell on Etsy.

There is a procedure.

Etsy will definitely give you back your money in full.

What you describe sounds like a chinese, indian or turkish drop shipper masquerading as a legitimate US vintage seller. What you purchased was likely mass produced fake crap. (Always do a reverse image search before purchasing on Etsy, and check out the store's social media. Half the stuff is legitimate vintage and artisan created, the other half is fake temu shein alibaba stuff that hasn't been caught by the Etsy bots yet.)

* Go to your order.

* click "help with your order"

* it will give you a list of reasons. I think if you click "something else" you will be able to explain your issue.

* This goes to the seller. They have 48 hours to resolve your issue with Etsy oversight. If they fail to resolve it satisfactorily and they violated Etsy's rules, such as misrepresenting the item being in the US, when it was actually coming from China or the middle east and is now stuck in customs with a big tarrif bill due on delivery like your order sounds like, then Etsy will issue you a refund. If the shop shows a pattern of this, Etsy will shut them down.

Please leave a review so other innocent shoppers don't get taken advantage of.

Yep. I've bought many things over the years on Etsy, and the rare times I ran into problems, they always made it right. Amazon, Poshmark and Ebay too, now I think about it. All these platforms have solid customer service. You just need to be reasonable, and understand what's in whose responsibility.

It's probably coming from China. You'll have to wait months.
