I picked up a wallet with driver's license, credit cards and cash

No phone number. Google the name and address find no helpful contact information. Do I need to drive to the house address to return the wallet?

Take to police station.

I am in NOVA, the address is in Silver Spring, MD. The guy is hispanic, I don't want to get him into any trouble with ICE!!!!

Do you assume all Hispanics are illegally here?

Is the drivers license Real ID? If so person is citizen or has legal presence.

When this happened to me I did take it to the owner’s house but it was about a 10 minute drive so no major sacrifice.

I drove a similar wallet to its owner, OP. It was a new teen driver. I dropped off the wallet with a little note about where I'd found it into her family home's mailbox. A few days later, she sent me a thank you note. It was a nice little interaction.

And I agree with PP, do not assume that all Hispanic people lack the right documentation.

Me again. I returned it rapidly, because I didn't want the family to stress out and go through the hassle of canceling that credit card. Perhaps they did anyway, as a precaution, but I did my part.

No, I am not racist. I just don't want to get anyone into any unnecessary trouble involving the police. The house is 30 min away and I will face traffic and I still need to go to the office to work today. I think I will just drive. Hopefully someone is in the house to take the wallet.

You could also mail the wallet...?

Of course you aren't. Sheesh. Thank you for being a good neighbor.

I would just mail it.

When I found someone’s wallet, I simply mailed it back to the address on the license. I included a note about where and when I had found it. Got a nice thank-you note in return.
