Virginia tech encouraging everyone to apply early

Anonymous
Received an email from Virginia tech today that seems to be saying that they can't promise they will have any slots left when they get around to regular decision.

This is a small sample:

"Regular Decision is looked at on a space available basis, so we encourage students to apply Early Action. We do not use first semester or mid-year grades in our application process, so students do not need to delay their applications to Virginia Tech."

Everyone should apply early to every school they are seriously considering that offers EA. DD only has one school she is considering that does not have EA (has ED but she used that elsewhere.)

If it's not binding, why wouldn't a kid apply early? There's no downside.

They told students last year to apply early if they were serious about VT.

It has been this way for years.

I so wish they would reinstitute ED.

So?

It's a reality that if a school offers any form of Early action and it's not binding (like ED), your kid must do that. It shows you are organized, planners and on top of things and most importantly that you really want to attend that school. If you cannot be bothered to get an app in by Nov 1/15, then you loose out. It's that way at many schools. And a great tool for schools to use. Nobody is stopped from doing it unless they are lazy and not ready to submit.
ANd before anyone says it---very few kids will benefit from waiting and submitted fall senior year grades.

Fall senior year isn't going to make a difference in 99%+ of the cases. Submit your application for EA if you want admissions.

They've done this for the past several years. My oldest graduated in 2023 and they encouraged early applications (ED or EA) then as well.

Just shut the hell up. Tech does not offer merit aid of any significant sense. It’s not a second tier liberal arts college.

I am so tired of this website it’s full of amateurs.
