high fiber whole food snacks ideas

Anonymous
Hello,

I’m trying to increase my daily fiber intake. I’d appreciate ideas for whole food snacks that are about at least 5g of fiber. Reasonable quantities, please (so not 3 cups of blueberries 😊).

Some days I hit my fiber goal of 25g, some days I don’t and on those I want to supplement with a snack.

An example of my daily eating is-

breakfast of yogurt with 1/2c mixed berries and 1T mix of chai/flax/hemp seeds - 5g fiber

lunch of turkey sandwich with baby carrots on side - 5g fiber

snack of almonds and apple - 6/7g fiber

dinner of salmon and broccoli and roasted potatoes or cous cous - 4g

I’d like to add 5 or so grams fiber to a day like this, so maybe a morning or after dinner snack. Thanks!

Add hummus to the lunchtime carrots. Add a high fiber fruit to your dinner/after dinner routine? (1/2 cup frozen raspberries is about 4g of fiber and is great on many dessert type things, smoothies, etc. or by itself)

I’m munching on dried apricots and macadamia nuts while I read this. A small serving of each adds up to 6-7 grams of fiber.

I eat dried (no sulfites or extra sugar) mango. I get the big bags from Costco as they are more cost effective.

Roasted chickpeas. I usually do with Old Bay to add to salads but my kids eat them as a snack.

I also loved roasted chickpeas. I personally don't get them quite all the way to crispy and I like then with Tajin.

A can of chickpeas is about 4-5 grams of fiber.

Fruit, raspberries, apples, etc. Pistachios or other nuts.

I got the most delicious pumpkin seeds at Giant in the healthy food aisle.

There was just a study saying kiwi is basically the perfect food for fiber.

Add all bran buds to yogurt. 1/2 cup gives you 17 grams of fiber, so getting to 5 grams would be easy.

These are actually good tasting fiber bars (and no I don't work for the company):
