Apparently about 20% of the student body is American and it's been nicknamed the "Nantucket of Scotland." What's the draw and why this one university particularly?
|
| Never heard of it. |
| Princess Kate and Prince William made the name recognizable to the American masses. |
| Didn’t Jeff expose the Sta troll recently? |
| It's cheaper than US colleges and they speak English (somewhat understandably to US English speakers). |
| A lot of American private school kids attend, often bc they didn't get into the US schools they preferred. Big US private school cliques at st andrews just like here at top private colleges. There kids aren't looking for a discount but are attracted to UK social opportunitiesamd potential prestige of a well known (although not top) international university. A friend's daughter at st. A went to a 'ball' recently and the mom was so excited about that. |
| East Coast progressives are freaking out over t-rump and taking it out on their poor children. |
| No frat, no hazing, a safer college experience. |
the troll keeps creating or reviving StA threads. Wonder if their bonus depends on the no of US applications. |
| Agree couldn ‘t get into 1st or 2nd choices at home. Safe haven for the progressive lefties with the EV Audi car. |
Nope. Though your ignorant advertising of your MAGA views is quite sad. Why are you people so full of hate? Most people I know going there are far from progressive. Not necessarily MAGA, but definitely not super liberal. More private school money types, who tend to be centrist or lean slightly right - probably a lot of Republicans without a home - used to be Republican in the old school sense but despise what Trump has done. |
| Cheap access to a killer golf course, though for most of the school year that is probably useless? |
| Lapsed Anglicans or Unitarians. |
|
The Bush family types who have been shut out of the Ivies for the last 40 years.

No, St Andrews has been marketing to full pay Americans since right after WWII when it had severe financial problems |
