Looking for a SFH in McLean

I’m looking for a SFH in McLean to upsize my living. Budget $2-2.5m. Target a newish house (built within 20 years) that’s 5500+ sqft. Seems impossible in this market.

Within the last 20 years, that’s impossible. Maybe in the 2.5m range but it will need updating. My recommendation would actually be an older 1980s home that has been updated within the last 10 years.

Plenty of craftsman that fit this criteria. The lot may not be perfect.

Newer construction homes on smaller lots in West Mclean or Pimmit Hills maybe? YOu won't find new construction (even 10 yrs old) on .3-.5 acre lots in Mclean because most new construction homes on bigger lots were built in excess of sq.ft you need, they are bigger and built for luxury buyers. In this range you are looking at an older faux-colonial (older mcMansions) that may need refurbishing and modernizing which isn't cheap to do. Or a remodeled modernized, expanded split level or ranch if you are into midcentury modern type of stuff.

I am surprised you cannot find any, there are many homes in this price range

Make sure the neighborhood has protective covenants and an HOA. You don’t want to buy a nice SFH home then have someone build an apartment tower next to it that brings crime and blocks your sunlight.

+1. We live in 22101. The new/new'ish builds we see popping up are running $2.8-$4M. And the one's below $3M often have less desirably lots (slopped, uneven).

It is not nonsense. Look at SB 79 in California. Apartment towers are coming to single family neighborhoods in McLean unless people fight back against government overreach in Richmond.
