From USDA to Department of Education?

Anonymous
Job interview opportunity with Education department, not sure if I should take the interview.

USDA: I don't want to leave current USDA agency, if there will be no relocation. I like the agency and wanted to stay till retire, but not anymore since the administration threatens relocating many USDA headquarter employees out of NCR. I have no idea what will happen to USDA reorganization plan (relocating to 5 hubs), I have not heard any updates so far.

At the meanwhile, I try to leave USDA for another agency, just in case of being forced to relocate.

Education department: If it is DoD/DHS position or other agencies, I will be happy to take it. Department of Education has lost a lot of employees this year, not sure if it is "safe" to switch to Education department, whether Education department will be eliminated or not, or possible job relocation too?

I just want a federal position in DC metro area (till retirement), and I don't want to move (for various reasons). I am not qualified for VERA yet, otherwise I would had taken DRP earlier this year.

Anyone from Education department? Could you please tell something about the agency? I really want to get out of USDA, due to possible relocation.

I thought the Education Department was going away.

I think it will need congress's approval to get rid of education department.

I applied for a position last month and will have an interview, it seems that they were hiring (in September, while there was hiring freeze till September 30). I think they have lost too many employees earlier this year, and they have to fill some positions.

That is a big gamble, tell us about the move, can you make it work for short term?

Too much unknown with USDA at this point: not sure how many employees (of my agency) will actually be moved out of DC metro area, not sure about new location, not sure if I will be impacted.
If no relocation for me, I like my job. I have been doing it for many years and would like to stay till retirement. BUT NO RELOCATION.

Department of Education: I have no idea about the agency, which is constantly being attacked by the administration.

Neither is "safe" agency to work for, but USDA relocation is very likely next year. I just need a new federal job so badly.

I know somebody who was RIFd from Ed and then hired back, so it seems like they need people. No idea how long-term that situation will be.

I don't have other choices at this point, I check USAJOBS website almost every day.

I am tired of this administration. I don't feel safe about my job, and cannot focus on what I am doing.

Can you apply for a non-fed job?

No plan to leave federal, unless I am fired. I have invested so many years in federal and would like to stay for some more years, in order to get pension and retiree health insurance.

If it is early stage of my career, I am open to all jobs.

If you cannot focus to do your job, then you should not feel safe.

A little exaggerated

I just mean - an employee (under the threat of relocation) intending to leave becomes less committed and less productive, and shifts focus toward finding a new opportunity.
