Male, Poli sci major, private school, good but not exceptional ECs (some specific stuff related to major and varsity sport/newspaper).
Un-weighted GPA 3.75 (school does not weight gpa, 4 yrs of eng, lang, sci, social studies, math, strong rigor getting to highest rigor level in each subject) favorite classes: poli sci/history, economics, english but never got below A- in math 1500+ SAT Wants to study comparative politics. Prefer mid-size or below, but also open to larger. Not really sure what he's looking for in terms of size. LACs are fine if vibes are good but does not want to be in middle of nowhere (no grinnell or carleton)! |

are these targets or reaches? seems like OP wanted targets. I agree those are good reaches. |
| W&M |
Wasn't clear what "target schools" stand for. I don't think she meant it in the context of reach target safety. More like where her DC can realistically have a chance admitted. |

GW?

GW given pol sci focus

GW is a target. With 3.7 from a typical high school, for targets I'd look at T50+
If you meant target in the more general sense of schools to look at, and are looking for reaches, there are plenty of those. Just grab a list of the T100 and look past around T20. |

| For reach, id look at Georgetown. Mid size in a city and they love private school kids and 1500+ sat. For targets could be Case Western, William and Mary (maybe the st andrews jt program), URichmond, maybe Lehigh, Tulane, Emory, Wisconsin, Wake, Villanova, Hamilton, BU, GW. Lots of larger public options. |

For a reach, but less of one than some: Claremont McKenna
If Catholic is okay, St Anselm's in New Hampshire for a target. It's a little isolated, but not that. The first presidential election debate is usually held there. It has a strong institute of politics. |
| Some of these responses are really off. GW at ours has an acceptance rate 90%. Claremont McKenna is a high reach. Georgetown is a high reach. |
|
Hamilton
Carnegie Mellon for poli sci may be less of a reach? Wake Forest |
|
Poli sci is tough at a big school because there are so many kids in that major. Large classes in the early years means basically you are self teaching or getting the equivalent of something online.
Georgetown is an obvious reach winner. Or look at NESCAC or Patriot League schools if your kid likes the Northeast. There are reach and target schools in that mix. If not north, look south to Davidson or W&L or maybe W&M for a small-ish big school. |
