Why is the rightwing media sphere obsessed with contrasting "tough" conservatives with "fearful" liberals?

Why do they see a binary world of tough, self-reliant conservatives vs. weak, submissive, fearful, hysterical liberals?

Keep in mind that the "tough" conservatives are afraid to ride the New York Subway or go out to dinner in DC, and are absolutely terrified of a broken escalator. Also, if you call them a name such as "fascist," they are liable to break down in tears and accuse you of violence.

The “toughness” is all external. MAGA outsources it to guns, tactical gear, pickup trucks, violent bumper stickers, and derogatory name calling. It’s symbolic swagger that says “I constantly feel threatened from all sides”.

The real test comes when they’re treated the same as women, black people, immigrants, non-Christians, and gay people. Try asking them to endure for a day what others have endured for centuries.

I consume a lot of rightwing media and don’t recall seeing this alleged portrayal of liberals as “fearful”. Usually they are characterized as arrogant, foolish (if white) or criminals (if black or Latino)

Typically it is left wing media painting conservatives as fearful, due to their dislike of cities and fondness of firearms.

I haven’t noticed right wingers being portrayed as fearful because they dislike cities, but I have seen them frequently portrayed as fearful of people who are not just like them: minorities, immigrants, transgender people, people who aren’t Christian.
