Ack! Sorry for the typo!

I’m pretty sure a very high up federal official lives on this street. Don’t want to release the name in case it’s not that person, but this is very curious. |
Gunfight on Chain Bridge Road less than three weeks ago, now this shooting in the same general area. |
Not seeing what the big deal is about this. |
Location, location, location. Right down the street from a really big rec center and playground: tons of baseball and soccer practices all evening. And on a block with multi-million dollar homes. DV happens everywhere: no less sad in a less affluent neighborhood. But more unusual to have a shooting in a tony part of town. |
Sounds like probably a mentally disturbed adult child and parents called for assistance? These cases are awful. We really don’t have good response for those types of situations. Something like tranquilizer guns or a taser would probably have been a better option here. |
Same location in 2023
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday, February 26, 2023, in the 5100 block of Sheriff Road, Northeast. At approximately 3:42 pm, Sixth District officers responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two adult male victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life, the victims were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The decedents have been identified as 34-year-old Harold Bogan, of Temple Hills, Maryland and 32-year-old Wayne Sheppard, of Seat Pleasant, Maryland. Today An officer-involved shooting occurred on September 16, 2025, in the 5100 block of Sherier Place NW in Washington, D.C., near the Palisades neighborhood. According to investigators, officers gave the man several orders to drop the knives, but he refused. One officer tried to subdue him with a Taser twice, but it was unsuccessful. The man then charged at the officers, who opened fire. |
From the report they tried to taser him twice, but I'm sure you know best. |
Those aren't the same location. The first one is on "Sheriff Road" in Northeast. That's over by the Arboretum. The second done is "Sherier Place" in Northwest. |
Sorry — I didn’t see the report. Sounds like the officers did take the appropriate de escalation techniques. A very unfortunate situation and it sounds like the individual was mentally unstable. I stand by my post that taser response is usually the appropriate response to a mentaly unstable individual with a knife, rather than shooting first. I know these situations are traumatic for the LEO as well, so I’m holding space for them in my thoughts, as well as the victim and his family. |
so tragic, what a nightmare for the family on that block. |
