The Atlantic article features the beginning portion of the book. I’m typically not one for politician books but I think there is meaningful stuff in here. Biden staying or leaving the race was entirely “Jill and Joe’s decision” and it was up to them. She specifically seems to go after Joe Biden’s comms team.

I do sympathize with Harris as I think she could have possibly had another 10 to 15 years of service in national politics if not for her career being tanked by her association with Biden. She is now suffering the same fate as Pence and Vance with her political career being ended by an association with a very unpopular president.

I agree in hindsight but putting myself in her shoes in 2020, it has to be difficult for an ambitious politician to turn down an offer of VP regardless of how low the odds of success with that POTUS may be. I'm sure Vance had reservations after seeing what happened with Pence and Harris but he still couldn't turn down Trump's offer even when knowing it wasn't going to end well.

It’s just the first excerpt so maybe she gets more into it later. I certainly don’t think Biden’s team made it any easier for her.

She's being humble. Biden lost the 2024 race. She never had a chance of victory due to the circumstances behind her nomination and her close ties to Biden.

According the Fight by by Amie Parnes and Jonathan Allen, Harris was forced on Biden by Jim clyburn. Biden tried to find another candidate but couldn’t find one that satisfied Clyburn.

I think there should have been more intervention to get Joe Biden to drop out of the race earlier. Joe and Jill’s personal feelings do not supersede the needs of the nation.

She was very successful in driving out 92% of her staff in record time.

Hmmmm... pretty sure Harris wasn't the weak link in that tandem. Anyone who accepted Biden's VP offer would be entering a career ending situation just as Pence and Vance did.

Harris was the only one who could cleanly and easily take over the $90 million that the Biden-Harris campaign already had in the bank, plus there wasn’t time for any kind of mini primary. That’s why she was the candidate.

Agree 100%. She didn't ask to be put into that no-win situation but she worked her butt and did the best she could against insurmountable odds. Biden lost the 2024 election for the Dems; not Harris.

Biden had said he would choose a woman. Clyburn's condition of support was that he choose a Black person.

Who should he have chosen? Pelosi wanted him to choose Karen Bass. She's done a terrible job as mayor, but likely would have been a better veep than Harris.
