I have a colonoscopy this week and will be doing the prep (drinking laxatives) staring at 4:00 pm the afternoon before.
Instructions say that I will drink again in the evening and as late as 2:00 am. Just found out about an event at DCs school that starts at 7:00 pm that evening. I would really like to go to at least part of it. In your experience, at what time will the “effects” start to kick in? Will I be OK from 7 until around 8 to be out of the house, assuming rest room is near by? Does the worst of it come later in the night after more laxatives? Is this a bad idea all the way around?! |
| Yea, no. Don’t plan on doing anything but sitting in your bathroom. You don’t want to be anywhere else. Consider what it’s doing… it’s clearing everything out of your bowel. Plan accordingly |

Wow, OP, you have no idea what's about to happen.
They don't only expect you to poop, they are aiming to clean your pipes entirely -- anything less and they can't do the procedure. You're gonna be shitting to the extreme -- and if that doesn't happen you're in trouble. So, no, you can't plan to go anywhere. |
| About three hours in is when the—ahem—bulk of it is really happening. |
| You should not leave your house once you've taken the prep. Either skip the event or change the date of your procedure. If it's just a routine colonoscopy, perhaps you should reschedule even if it's a couple of months out. |
| lol. Poor OP... you don't know what you're getting yourself into... |
Does saying that make you feel like a big girl, PP? (Not OP) |
It was faster for me, but I took the tablet prep rather than the liquid. |
| You sweet, sweet summer child. |
OP here. Thanks and you're right! I have no idea what to expect. This is my first colonoscopy. That's why I'm asking the question here. This is not a can't-miss event at the school. It's not worth changing the procedure time now that I've otherwise cleared my calendar. I just didn't know if the effects would come on slowly enough that I could squeeze in a short activity not far from home, before the worst of it starts. |
The answer is no. You should skip this one. The other PPs don't need to exaggerate, it is just a lot of watery poop, but you'll want to be near your own bathroom. |
God I hate this expression. |
Sooner than that for me. My prep was Clenpiq (liquid) plus dulcolax in the beginning, and I needed to be near a toilet within an hour of taking it. |

Splash splash,
You’ll be squirting out your ass, All throughout that very fine night. Glug glug, You’ll be chuggin’ all that jug, Till the porcelain throne feels right. Bowel prep party, yeah, you know the scene, Running down the hall like a laxative machine! Flip flop, tummy gonna pop, Sit right down and let it drop, drop, drop! Sip sip, Gotta finish every drip, Doctor wants that colon to shine. Flush flush, Ain’t no need to rush, Clear as day by the time you recline. They’ll scope you in the morning, But tonight’s the mess, With your Netflix queue and a bathroom confess! Splish splash, it’s a cleansing bash, Your gut’s clean as a pane of glass! |

Stay home. It’s all unpredictable, but it’s inevitable once you start the process.
Good luck! |
