God I hate this expression.

It’s very condescending.

OP, definitely do not go. either skip the school event or reschedule your colonoscopy! you cannot do both, you will regret it!

Vaseline on anus helps avoid chapping
Wet water wipes help prevent chafing

They don't only expect you to poop, they are aiming to clean your pipes entirely -- anything less and they can't do the procedure. You're gonna be shitting to the extreme -- and if that doesn't happen you're in trouble.

So, no, you can't plan to go anywhere.

OP here. Thanks and you're right! I have no idea what to expect. This is my first colonoscopy. That's why I'm asking the question here.

This is not a can't-miss event at the school. It's not worth changing the procedure time now that I've otherwise cleared my calendar. I just didn't know if the effects would come on slowly enough that I could squeeze in a short activity not far from home, before the worst of it starts.

Honestly, OP, I had kind of a similar question, that I asked the intake person and she had no idea. My dc has a soccer game at 12:00 on a Sunday. My procedure appt time is show up at 11 am on a Monday. Its the prep with pills. I wanted to know if I would be able to go to the game. Person had no idea. So I don't think its a dumb question!

It’s definitely not a dumb question. There are many different preps, everyone’s colon isn’t equally full at the start of their protocol, and everyone’s body doesn’t react the same way.

OP, no one can know for sure, but if missing the school event is preferable to having liquid diarrhea at the school, then you should skip the event, out of an abundance of caution. Don’t let people scare you; while people don’t want to undergo prep in public places, it’s generally not bad in the privacy of your own home.

one thing's for sure, if you start the prep at 4 and go to the event at 7, you're sure to be a DCUM conversation

OP here. Did they give you a time to start taking the pills? They told me an exact time- 4:00 pm day before - to start. You may be ok with a 12:00 game if you have not started taking them. You may be hungry because you can’t eat much that day, but based on what people are saying here, you shouldn’t have bathroom needs at that point.

Uh no you do not want to go to that event.

OP here. Not to mention at the school! I’m not looking to become famous in that way.

When it happened you can barely hold your butt cheeks together enough to get to a toilet. I would not want to be out in public 3-4 hours after taking the laxative. I took the pills , and I think I took them at 5 and effects started around 7.

Of course but I was super hangry by then.

OP, what worked wonderfully for me for colonoscopy.

- Squatty Potty
- Vaseline or coconut oil to generously lube the anus.
- Gatorade, liquid IV, Chicken soup, pho

Start having lots of salads and green/red veggi juice a week before prep. Eat keffir, yogurt, kimchi to have nice gut bacteria and start your gut moving. Try and drink at least 2-3 liters of fluids. This is especially useful for anyone who is taking the Ozempic kind of meds to lose weight or manage diabetes.

um no. you need to either skip the event or reschedule the colonoscopy. this is not a grey area.

I used hand held spray attachment for toilets.

Also, poo pourri is great to prevent odors.

No reason to be condescending to OP.

Frankly OP we don't know--- but really better to be safe than sorry. And you could be very sorry. I have yearly colonoscopies. Lots of different preps and they affect me differently. It could be an hour or hours. But it isn't pretty when it starts so stick to your house.

Tips-- clear liquid diet for 3-4 days before you begin prep. Lots of Gatorade in a non red/purple color that you like. Designate a bathroom for yourself. Prep H wipes which you don't flush so have a plastic bag in there for them. DO NOT skip any of the prep or think it must be done. It isn't and the worst thing you can do is show up, not have done your prep correctly and have to redo it all.
