Had stomach pains Sunday (not severe) after drinking cold brew. I normally drink decaf. Went to the bathroom but then was fine Monday. Ate soup with beans and had regular coffee again Tuesday and now all hell has broken loose. I have had diarrhea since tuesday morning- mostly in the mornings. Then feel ok during afternoon. However last night was up all night going and now have nonstop cramps (not severe) but with little output . Saw GI who sent me home with sample kit to do and said either infection or IBS likely.
This seems extreme. No blood or fever and feel hungry but scared to eat. I have history of colitis (mom) and family members with IBS. I have high anxiety and clear colonoscopy 2018. GI also said can take Imodium or Pepto but I am not comfortable taking Imodium until an infection is ruled out. I almost feel like I need the ER but perhaps I am being crazy. I go to the bathroom and feel like I need. to go again 2 min later. Thanks for any thoughts. |
Sounds like food poisoning or a virus. Nothing in your post sounds remotely alarming (at this point in time.) |
Try to relax and wait for the sample results. I have ulcerative colitis and I don't think chronic colitis would come on in this manner. You may be making yourself more sick with the anxiety. (BTDT.) |
Given that it came on so suddenly it likely is either food poisoning (which can feel like you’re dying) or an infection. Try to stay hydrated and get some rest. You’ve already seen a specialist. If it doesn’t improve over the weekend get a second opinion. Sending you good vibes for a quick recovery. |
Op here. Past few days I was fine in between bouts but today the cramps are relentless and never feels I am cleared out. Like I can’t work or walk or leave the house. |
I've had food poisoning twice and it was all done within a handful of hours. A virus would wax and wain a bit. I would do Telehealth and explain the situation to someone new to get their thoughts re: infection. Are you keeping food down? And staying hydrated? That's obviously key w/diarrhea. |
The ER for diarrhea? Are you kidding me? I have it monthly! Now I’ve heard everything. |
Have you had raw oysters or sushi? |
I had this it lasts a good month and it sucks I’d go to your doctor just to be sure but my symptoms weee same as yours |
Sounds like a virus more than food poisoning but doesn’t sound at all concerning. Sometimes I can take a week or two to get your digestive system back on track once a virus enters it. It’s just like a cold, where it can linger for a week or two. Please don’t worry none of this sounds alarming |
You likely had a virus and your intestinal track/stomach are irritated. Cold brew coffee is going to irritate your stomach if you’ve recently had a virus, even if you didn’t have major symptoms, because it’s acidic. The same with beans. You need to eat a very bland diet for the next week and see how you do. |
This is a weird suggestion, so take it with a grain of salt. Have you tried some indica cannabis? It can settle a sour stomach.
Either way, don’t panic. You’ll be ok. |
Stay hydrated and eat easy to digest foods. You’ve already seen a GI, going to the hospital is pointless unless you need IV fluids. |
You are not dying. Why in the world would you need to go to the ER? ER is for life or death. They stabilize you. You are alive and not remotely close to not being alive. Do you have health anxiety? Maybe you are shitting your brains out because you of your health anxiety. Either way, it sounds like it came on today and you need to give it time to past through. |
Sounds like norovirus. Stop freaking out. |
