High School Catfish on Netflix

OMFG!

Someone explain this to me. Insane.

There are evil people on earth and the guilty person is a psychopath. That person so easily excuses their behavior.

Why did it seem that at the big reveal the daughter wasn't surprised at all?

Holy moly--this was wild. But the total lack of emotion from Lauryn and the perpetrator was one of the strangest things I have seen in a long time. I feel awful for the teenagers involved!

It's almost impossible not to give the spoiler away but I believe the guilty person hated Lauren. Did the guilty party let Lauren know what they were doing because Lauren didn't seem surprised at all.

Skip this because spoiler:

So sick. The people who know the guilty person and Lauren's boyfriend think the guilty party had/has a "thing" for the boyfriend.

It's disturbing that Lauren is still in contact with this person and in a snippet of text provided of one of their conversations, it is clear that the person is manipulating and being abusive to her still.

Agree with 13:08 that the Spoiler Alert person is manipulating Lauryn - if Lauryn doesn't love her she will have NOTHING left. So of course she's love-bombing Lauryn.

Lauryn is a sweet yet simple girl and intense therapy would really help her a lot. Because right now the person speaking loudest to her about her relationship with Spoiler Alert, IS Spoiler Alert who obviously has her own agenda (see above paragraph). Spoiler Alert saying she did this to drive Owen & Lauryn away from each other so L wouldn't get raped like she did is BS. I know, sadly, a decent chunk of moms who've been raped and they are all good moms. Shame the Spoiler Alert didn't manage to keep one of her jobs (and I'd love to know why she got fired) so she could have used health insurance to get therapy for her issues before telling Lauryn to kill herself. Lauryn should NOT see Spoiler Alert without supervision.

Fun fact: I was relentlessly bullied all through school - elementary, middle and HS. Had social media/texting been a thing then I absolutely would have been receiving messages to kill myself. And in thinking about this, I am realizing that my parents' attitude would have been "what did you do to bring this upon yourself?" They very much made that clear to me when I complained daily about spitballs in my hair, being shoved against lockers, being shoved up and down the aisle of the school bus each morning, etc. So that trickled over to school administrators which in a way, absolved them of having to help me. Kind of weird to think about now as an adult.

This is bonkers. But it did seem like it took law enforcement a long time to send subpoenas to the app company/verizon.

The story is nuts.

Why did nobody think to notify police until after 15 months of constant cyber stalking?

Also, the perpetrator's explanation that "everyone breaks the law" is just pure lunacy. Very likely a psychopath.

And when the perpetrator said was asked about telling Lauryn repeatedly to kill herself, the perp said they knew she’d never do that, like that makes it okay.

Nobody said this outright, but I think it’s pretty clear the stalker was manipulating all the parties involved.

Unbelievable.

Didn't I hear perpetrator say that they did no send the initial text messages? If I heard that correctly, was it ever determined who sent those initial text messages?

Just watched this show and I’m utterly horrified that they allowed the perpetrator to be part of it.

If anyone wants to do a deeper dive on this story, the article gives more background. Spoiler in the URL!!!

I can’t wait to watch this….

I hope it is good.

The scene where the family finds out who it was annoyed me so much. The way the perpetrator clung to Lauren and cried and acted like they were the victim made me want to throttle them. And it was so sad to see how much the perpetrator had obviously manipulated her into also feeling bad/sad towards the perp.

The story itself is interesting and crazy. The doc wasn't good at all.
