D.C. police target of investigation re: faked crime data

What has long been suspected - faked crime data - is now the subject of an official investigation:

I’ve lived in DC since 1987 and these allegations are hardly news to me. I remember when the City Paper’s reporter who did the “crime blotter” got robbed, reported it, and MPD failed to include her own crime that month (as just one obvious example).

What do you think will be the result of the investigation here?

I suspect the same is true in my neighborhood. Can drive by a large police presence, next door reports gun shots but hey, nothing in the police reports. Guess it was just fireworks again.

I have seen this in my neighborhood. One thing that's built into the system is that if dc housing authority police are considered the first responder it doesn't show up in mpd stats. Not sure if the same is true for other police forces (park, metro, library, etc). Another issue is mpd being unwilling to take reports. I had to push hard on two occasions (property crime and a traffic offense). And people were just at our anc meeting to complain that when teenagers were kicking at their doors mpd wouldn't take a report because they said that wasn't a crime (attempted burglary? Property damage? Trespassing?). So I do think there are problems though I don't think having the national guard and ice here helps.

Are cops supposed to give you a copy of the report, if you report a crime?

The GOP governors of South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee have all sent their states' National Guard troops to assist Trump's occupation of DC.

All four of those states have cities with crime rates higher than DC.

This was never about "fighting crime."
