Is marriage the *only* way to wealth?

Is marriage the *only* way to wealth?

I have no desire to get married, but I noticed that most people who are wealthy are married. I make $150k and I am 35. It seems to me that most men with my salary who are on their way to good wealth are married to someone who makes as much as them or more.

Well, no. Being married typically leads to kids which make you poorer for most of your life. But divorce is a quick way to becoming poor.

Are you happy as a single person? Kids are expensive and 1/2 of the marriages fail.

This. All of your money is yours and it’s a good amount for a single person. Invest wisely and you’ll be set.

Do NOT get married. You’ll likely get divorced. Even Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates lost a ton of money in their divorces. Stay single and invest.

Not me I just was born.

Marriage is increasingly becoming something only UMC people undertake.

It’s more that wealthy people see the value in marriage, while the MC and LMC marriage rates are declining.

Absolutely not of course women can be wealthy without a man.

Many women have made themselves wealthy.

However, moving forward, the GOP's Project 2025 explicitly wants women to no longer bank, own property and or wealth.

OP here. Thanks all for responding. I recently broke up with my girlfriend because even though we both agreed 2 years ago that we wouldn't get married nor have kids she changed her mind. I get it people change their mind. Mine did not. I have been investing and I am doing okay, but it just some days I wonder what if I had twice my income. Sure I can achieve it in my field, but I need to be in the top 1% of performers and I am not.

Obviously it's not the only way to wealth, but people striving to achieve wealth typically have a "trailing spouse" who takes care of groceries, cooking, cleaning, repairs, appointments, gifts, vacation planning, etc. Even if it's outsourced, the trailing spouse is managing it. That's incredibly helpful in letting the other spouse focus on work.
In theory you could hire someone to do all this, but in practice people don't - especially if they are striving but not yet actually wealthy.

No. Making a lot and being smart with money is the way to wealth. Being married just gives you more offense (income.)

Truth.

My husband only dragged me down.

The best way to wealth is through a generous and successful parent or grandparent. Husbands aren’t worth the risk.

Freshly divorced here. I am now in a 1 bedroom apartment having my kids 50% of the time in a not so nice neighborhood. Worst she cheated and now we are splitting everything in 1/2 even though I was the higher earner for most of the marriage and we both worked.

15% tithing to yourself is the way to wealth.

Buy whatever property you can afford and keeps you from throwing money away. Rent a room if you can stand it,

Wait and see. You’ll be wealthy.

No kids is the way to wealth
