MCPS Teachers Not Being Payed?

Anonymous
I remember seeing some people at the last board meeting holding up signs saying “MCPS pay us”. Nobody seemed to testify about not getting payed but Rivera-Oven did ask Taylor about a certain position being changed from 10 to 12 months, Taylor said those people are being payed. But apparently many teachers and support staff are not being payed. Does anyone have any information about this? The unions don’t have any press releases about this issue. I was only able to find an article on ModeratelyMOCO: https://moderatelymoco.com/summer-pay-chaos-mcps-employees-still-await-compensation-as-unions-take-action/

Not surprising as much is having a rough go of things. Wonder if it’s a money issue or incompetence. As long as central office is paid…

I hope you’re not a teacher. It’s “paid” not “payed.”

The only payment issue I’m aware of is that many summer school staff have had issues with summer jobs being coded correctly in MCPS’ online timesheets, meaning some staff weren’t paid on time for the first part of their summer work.

The article on moderately moco is true. I know a bunch of educators who have yet to be paid for summer work. The union is going to file a class action suit.

Yes, it’s related to summer work for employees who aren’t usually working in the summer. Not all summer employees are impacted, but those who are have been given the run around.

Keep in mind that summer school is often harder than teaching Sept-June. Many summer school teachers and paras could take jobs in retail or food service instead. Mortgage companies, PEPCO, and whoever holds your car loan don’t care that MCPS can’t get Hub+ to operate.

That said, this is a very bad sign. I’ve had friends in DCPS go unpaid before. A functional system makes sure employees get compensated in a timely manner.

Paid.

I don’t know what “payed” is.

Even though there's no extra pay for the double overtime we are required to do admin will still try to fire us if we report the violence. I wish the union gave atleast 1 or 2 shts about teacher welfare and student safety

Just name drop whoever supposedly fired you for 'reporting violence' instead of stalking every thread and saying the same thing

Thank you so much for your correction, I don’t know what we would have done without you!

If true, this is terrible. Is this specifically the people who are working ESY and summer school?

To my knowledge.

Some people have two summer positions and got paid for one rather than the other.

How does one acquire two summer positions? Is it the 0.5/0.5 or 0.6/0.4 positions ?

There are positions that allow you different hours and jobs that don't overlap. Like you could be an esy teacher and an summer assessor because you could schedule your assessments after ESY is over.
