| Last night while watering my flowers I was completely attacked. It happened suddenly and now I’m covered in bites that are red and raised and swollen, and SO itchy. I’m also tingly everywhere, like I want to come out of my skin. I wouldn’t say I’m anaphylactic but something inside of my body feels off. I’ve been smearing Benadryl cream and After Bite, but I can’t take Benadryl because it knocks me out and I can’t be sleeping. But this tingly sensation is driving me crazy, as is the itching. What else can I do? |
| You’re going to need to take the Benadryl, sorry. and if you don’t feel better in a few hours go to urgent care to see if you need a steroid. A hot shower could help too. |
Thanks! Actually, showering seems to make it worse somehow. |
| Do the hot spoon trick. |
| I would do a virtual urgent care appt. |
| Aloe does help, not magically but it soothes. |
|
You might need to go to urgent care, OP.
If you start to swell or have difficulty breathing, then it's a 911 situation. Sorry about the mosquitoes, they're so horrible in this area. I just got back from a trip where we had no mosquitoes at all, and returning to the DC area makes me so depressed. Another 3 years and my youngest graduates from high school, and then we're out of here! |

Epsom salts baths help.
I also got completely swarmed by mosquitos one night when I was unintentionally outside. I got 50+ bites in 20 min. The next morning, my arms were so swollen, I couldn’t bend my elbows or wrists. I had to be checked for Skeeter Syndrome, but the decision was that it’s “normal for lupus”. |
I wear long sleeves, long pants, shoes and socks when I am outside. Also, I wear a hat and cover myself with a mosquito netting when outside. Yes, I look like a loon but I am copying all the elderly Asians I see in the evening for my comfort and longevity.

Ouch. My daughter has lupus. Great. Another thing to look forward to. |

This happened to me at a wildlife refuge and I had to take the Benadryl as the itching was intolerable. Try not to scratch and hope you feel better.
You might want to try something like Mosquito dunks in your yard to control the population. |
| Welcome to summer in DC. |
| Pop a Benadryl or Zyrtec! |
| Allergy nurse. Don't take Benadryl, take liquid Zyrtec. |
