PV Champs Finals on Friday night and early Divisionals Saturday

Anonymous
How are you approaching the balance? If your swimmer makes finals Friday night and also has a really early divisionals meet Saturday, will your swimmer scratch or swim Friday night? If the swimmer scratches Friday finals, are they banned from swimming the rest of LC Meet? Would love to hear from experienced parents who have juggled this and gain advice for 12U swimmers.

The meet announcement has all the info on scratching from finals. Yes, can scratch and still swim later events. You are only banned from swimming later events if you don't properly scratch from finals and are a no show for finals.

As for deciding what you do- finals vs resting for divisionals, that is a discussion between your swimmer and their club coach. Coaches have different expectations.

12U session has changed and now starts later than when announced, and that affects the finals start time. This changes our original plan and now I am inclined to have my child skip finals, at least for the events that are toward the end. As long as the swimmer scratches in the 30 minute window, I don’t think they are banned from swimming later events, but someone correct me if I’m wrong. Do all summer leagues have divisionals on Saturday?

ETA: Our club coach does not care in the least. Coach just wants the kids to have a fun summer swimming. No pressure either way.

We were strategic in signing up for Divisionals events. My child only wanted to swim events to solidify an individual All Stars event, or increase the chance of getting one. Otherwise my child is focused primarily on PVS Champs.

I notice the Friday 10U PV LC Champs events are heavily tilted toward Maryland swimmers, which may suggest many NVSL swimmers chose not to go that day.

Definitely on the girls’ side, but not so much on the boys’ side.

Our team won’t have the divisionals line up until after Monday night. There is too much depth, and many of the events will come down to the B Meet. (NVSL, only allowed 2 events per swimmer)

They're the best at posting those! My child is not a Mako and I always check there. 😂

Guys, if your kid makes finals at age group champs, they will make all-stars regardless of how “tired” they are.
