I'm really struggling to understand the interior renovation to this house...

Are you really “struggling to understand” or would you just like everyone to know it’s not your taste?

Struggling to understand what you are struggling to understand

I'm sure you can wrap your brain around the disconnect between the exterior and interior....

Agree with OP, the outside and inside do not match. The stove being boxed in feels gross? Maybe I'm just a super messy cook.

I mean, this is just a testament to how if the inside doesn't match the outside, you're going to really, really feel the two periods clashing later on.

But it's a good renovation that was done really well. I bet they partied. It's just of its moment. They wanted to put a new house in an old envelope and that's what they did. But now one is middle aged. So you have to either undo it, or find someone who likes both and can deal with the strange marriage.

It's not boxed in. That's the oven, and above it a coffee station area situation.

Obviously it wasn't renovated all at once and probably not even by the same owners. The kitchen is old. The stairs are new.

Oh yeah, sorry looking on my phone.

other than the light fixtures and bannisters, it seems like a modern updating/ desire for streamlined, minimalist interior. It's not terrible (except the bannisters and hanging lights).

At least they kept the radiators.

What??? The kitchen and the stairs are definitely part of the same renovation/expansion.

I highly doubt that. Look at picture 23. You'll see how old the cabinets are, especially to the left of the dishwasher. The handrail style, on the other hand, is much more contemporary. The house was sold in 2021. I'd date the stairs back to around that time.

It's a dated, modern remodel.

It is not to my taste overall, but I must say the Turkmen carpets are all really nice!

No way. The 2021 transaction was not arms length. It might have been estate related or something but the stairs and the kitchen clearly come from the same 90's renovation.
