What do you say to someone who asks about how much money you have saved for retirement?

Anonymous
We have saved well and have no debts. We don't want our personal info to become gossip.

Depends on who is the someone

Kind of a weird question. I’d probably just say “enough.”
Anonymous
No one has yet to ask me. If I did get asked, I’d probably say something like “hopefully enough”.
Anonymous
Ask them how much they have, then say 'about the same'
Anonymous
"Is it ever enough? Nice day we're having . . . do you think it will rain tomorrow?"
Anonymous
We have tried “enough” and “why do you ask?”.

Why would people be so bold to ask about your money?
Anonymous
Say I try not to think about thst.
Anonymous
MYOB or
I’m independently wealthy

That usually shuts them up

Who is OK to ask?

Depends

I've never had anyone ask this. Is it your parents or something? I could see answering your parents or in laws with "we're on track and hoping things continue to go well" but if anyone else asked I'd probably just look at them quizzically and ask why they wanted to know.

Why would anyone share personal financial information with anyone other than your banker or broker???

Anyone who asks about your money has poor intentions.

It’s never OK. It’s like asking about your sex life or weight. It’s for gossip or malicious intentions.
