I am 5'2 and weigh 107 pounds so I am pretty small. I am 50 years old but generally look and come across as younger (mid 40s). In regular clothing stores I need size XS and they are difficult to find or sell out quickly. I can fit into girl's size XL (14/16) but with some exceptions those clothes are too juvenile. Where do other small women shop? Nothing too expensive as my taste changes regularly. Thanks! |
Go to H&M. Also the thrift store. Lots of XS sizes there. Also, they don't actually sell out that fast. |
This is hilarious. Why would you want to shop in the kids section? I’m 5’2 and 117 so not as small as you and I shop in “normal” adult stores, bonus if they sell petites if I’m buying pants.
This reminds me of that parody insta account about the “girl who thinks she’s tiny”. |
Everyone on DCUM thinks they “look and come across as younger” but this is very silly.
Maybe try the Juniors dept at Kohls or JCPenney? |
It's less expensive. |
I’m 5ft tall and find petites at Madewell, Gap, JCrew, Athleta, and random other stores. Just go to a petite section of most stores. Some stores have petites only online. Or try ShortStory boxes online for subscription orders which caters only to petites. |
My short friend shopped in Japan.
For cheaper clothes, the British brands to run small and narrow. Like H & M and Zara. Just have them hemmed. |
OP here - I don't like petites sizes because at 5'2 - they tend to be too short for me. I need regular sizes (non-petite) but XS as most smalls swallow me or fall off my waist.
Also, people regularly tell me I don't look 50, I am not just making it up. It's not like I said I look 20. But I do look about 5ish years younger. I don't have greys and I have taken pretty good care of my skin. It is what it is. I do shop in H&M some but find the quality pretty bad. I would say I mostly shop at Kohls, Nordstrom Rack, Ann Taylor, and Old Navy and Target for basic pieces. This weekend I did buy a jean jacket in the kid's section of Kohls that is perfect for wearing over short sleeves/summer dresses in air conditioning. |
I shop in the kids section + love it.
Some good sources for grown-up looking petite clothes for women: Reiss Brooks Brothers Ralph Lauren Uniqlo Nordstrom Abercrombie |
Try designer shops that cater to models and Asian stores. |
Kids' stores.
I just realized last weekend that my daughter's size 12 mini Boden dress fits me!!! The women's XS is often too large and a lot of brands don't have XXS. It's mind-boggling. |
I am 5’ 3’’ and 100 lbs. I like…
-Ann Taylor petite -Gap or Old Navy petite or size 0 or 00 -Cropped jeans (fit like regular jeans) Beyond that, just a lot of trial and error. Sometimes extra small actually does fit, or extra extra small or double zero is available. I don’t really like children’s sizes because the proportions are off, and a lot of times the styling looks like it’s meant for a five-year-old. The only child size things I get (sometimes) are things like jackets/coats or socks and some shoes. |
Pp from above. You didn’t ask this, but I will say I tried to buy stuff that is classic and that I can wear for a long time. Also, I don’t wait until I need stuff. I try to look for clothes every so often just so that I always have wearable clothes for whatever sort of event I might have. Never wait until the month or two before an event because you will never be able to find anything. |
I am 5’2 and petite stuff is not too short. I’m confused though how petites would be too short but kids stuff wouldn’t be? |
