NY Mayor race: what does Jessica Tisch do?

Anonymous
Given last nightms shocking results, Jessica Tisch must be seriously weighing her options. It is no secret that the current chief of the NYPD has longed to be the mayor of New York City since she was a child growing up in Manhattan.

Tisch, the billionaire heir to the Loews hotel and real estate fortune, can easily self fund her campaign and would have credibility as an independent candidate. The accolades and endorsements from the billionaire and Establishment political classes would pour in. Her entrance in the campaign would also soothe the anxieties of Jewish New Yorkers (and those that have made the move down to Florida in recent years).

This could be the recipe of a blockbuster media matchup:

Mamdani, the telegenic Muslim son of immigrants, social media wunderkid, and political neophyte

vs.

Tisch, the Jewish daughter of real estate magnates, heiress to a multibillion fortune, and long time & deeply connected NYC civil servant (albeit with a wooden personality)

This campaign would be the acute distillation of all the stresses running through our society right now: billionaires vs W2 workers, religious conflict, social media popularity vs traditional political coalition building.

Does Jessica Tisch toss her hat in the ring?

In politics, appearances matter more than they should. She would be DOA in the political realm.

We don’t want or need any more wealthy politicians who self fund their ego parades/campaigns.

I’m puzzled by your characterization of Tisch. She is actually known as a skilled administrator who can get things done. Yet you distill her to her gender, religion, and national origin. I know less about Mamdani but given progressive failures to actually manage cities I am skeptical that “neophyte wunderkid” is what we are looking for. But sure, break it all down to identity politics, that has been promising in the past.

Tell me more about all these "skilled administrators" who are super popular on social media. If that was the barometer of success, Scott Stringer would be the nominee.

Her stiff appearance is a residue of childhood polio. FDR was a victim of polio, too, and the press went out of their way to protect him visually. She would make a great mayor/governor/president - or GM of the NY Football Giants.

She has lifelong arthritis, not polio. Jeez.

She’s 44, it’s not possible for her to have had polio.

Wait was she running??!! Had no idea. She would be good. If she was running and didn’t win then NY deserves to deal with all the crazy.

So many great candidates and social media pushes the two worst men.

Sounds like extremes on both sides, absolutely. People need to learn that just because someone yells the loudest and promises the most doesn’t mean they are the best. It’s usually the opposite.
