So some tech execs join the army reserve as Lt Col; do they go thru basic training or what?
This feels a bit disrespectful of actual military officers, but perhaps I’m cynical? https://thegrayzone.com/2025/06/18/palantir-execs-appointed-colonels/ |
I think it is very disrespectful. No basic training? They didn’t earn their place. Tech bros are horrible Americans. The sense of entitlement is staggering. |
Every day this administration insults the military just a little more. |
Military doctors and nurses have to go through some basic training, but not these turds? MAGA, where are you to comment? |
Every day this administration insults the {insert anything here} just a little more. |
Tech executives don’t actually create the technology themselves so what exactly are they supposed to do in the Army? |
I'm sure they get a complimentary top secret clearance that doesn't go into their rampant drug use at tech sector retreats. |
Laughs in 18F and DDS. |
There was this movie back in early 80s, I think it was called The Terminator or something like that, about an AI company called Skynet and its killer robot…. |
Yes the movies where tech bros is the evil mastermind... they always get squashed at the end. |
So many work very hard towards their rank, insulting. |
The US has a long tradition of bringing SME’s from the civilian world into the military (at a rank consistent with their level of responsibility in the civilian world) for unique or peculiar specialties or capabilities, the sort of things that members of the service themselves aren’t experts in.
Look at the George Clooney movie “Monuments Men” as an example of this. Also, Hollywood directors and actors were brought into the military (at an officer rank, usually 0-4 to 0-6) to make films for the war department. John Williams being one example of this. It’s happens. It’s a real thing. And btw, those officers you’re so worried about being jealous at someone’s rank? They didn’t go to “basic training” either. Officer’s receive a Commission in Line or Reserves, after completing ROTC or OCS, or the Academies, as Lieutenants. No one is expecting a 40-something tech SME who is needed *right now* to go to OCS for 12 weeks or ROTC/Academy for 4 years and then become a gold bar lieutenant. They’ll make them a 0-5 because that’s what they be by then if they’d actually been in the military. This whole thread is just a pathetic reach by really dumb people. And it shows. |
MAGA here! Combat veteran, US Army, 19 Delta, 1st Cav 1st ABCT I’m fine with it. We had a Muslim Chaplain that was embedded with us during part of one of my deployments. He was sheep-dipped in as a Major. No one had any beef with it. |
MAGA stops at nothing to defend this administration. There are plenty of smart folks currently in the military who can accomplish the tasks that the tech bros are signing up for but I know you must defend the dear leader. |
I’m not a MAGA, in fact. Never voted for Trump in my life. But I strongly dislike this whole atmosphere of making anything and everything political and viewing every situation through a prism of “can this be used against Trump?”. I just told you specific examples of why and how the military does this, and rather than becoming smarter and better informed by what I wrote, your first instinct is to attack me and label me a maga. Don’t you see the irony here? You’re an anti-maga - and you’re just as polarized and as stupid as those who you say support Trump no matter what. You oppose anything Trump does, because you have to. Doesn’t matter what it is, you MUST take the opposite position. That’s the box you’ve allowed yourself to be forced into by Trump. He’s manipulated you to the point where the only thing you can do is be the opposite of whatever he says. You better hope Trump doesn’t issue an executive order banning suicide. |
