And btw, those officers you’re so worried about being jealous at someone’s rank? They didn’t go to “basic training” either.  Officer’s receive a Commission in Line or Reserves, after completing ROTC or OCS, or the Academies, as Lieutenants. No one is expecting a 40-something tech SME who is needed *right now* to go to OCS for 12 weeks or ROTC/Academy for 4 years and then become a gold bar lieutenant. They’ll make them a 0-5 because that’s what they be by then if they’d actually been in the military.
