Experiences with Bard College?

We are looking into Bard College. What should we know?

We visited and found the campus so weird. Ugly pseudo art on the grounds. Old dorms. We were not impressed.

Idyllic campus, somewhat spread out. Quirky students. Probably attracts a very specific type of student interested in performing arts. They might need to start offering merit aid.

People here are not open to liberal arts colleges that don’t produce a litany of “respectable careers” aka Investment Bankers, Consultants, and Lawyers. They are typically right leaning moderates or conservatives and try their hardest to disparage any humanities-focused college.

It’s a great school for the right kid, but the PP is correct. Here it will only draw nonsense.

One person's ugly campus is idyllic; another person's pseudo art is a masterpiece. 🎭

Breeding ground for the Palestinian front!

PP you replied to. I entirely agree. The portion close to the founder’s house was actually gorgeous, but it’s further away from the rest of the campus, and main areas seemed unkempt and in rather poor condition. Vassar was the same, BTW. Lovely at a distance, but when you get close to the buildings, a lot of them are in disrepair. By contrast, Middlebury is newer and very impressive from a grounds and buildings perspective.

I have visited a LOT of east coast campuses. I am not opining on reputation or academic caliber of institutions. The one we preferred was Williams. My kid ended up at a large urban private university, so no skin in this game.

Avoid. It was struggling financially until it received a $500 billion endowment pledge from George Soros. Now it's in a better financial position but with tons of woke strings attached.

It was woke well before Soros donated. Very quirky; it's definitely not for everyone. I associate it with pretty extensive drug use, but my evidence is anecdotal.

They aren't wrong. DCUM are too busy pearl clutching about protests to give good advice on a college like Bard. Literally half these comments are complaining about how woke it is. It's unproductive.

$500 million, not billion.
