Jamie Dimon - CEO of JPMorgan Chase - is an idiot and out of touch

His statement is so ignorant and out of touch.

Dimon pointed out that a 17-year-old bank teller could make $40,000 a year, adding: “And if you happen to have a family at 18 or whatever, you get $20,000 in medical benefit for your family. You can be a welder, you can be a coder, you could be cyber, you could be automotive—all of those jobs are $40,000 to $60,000, $70,000 a year."

Bank teller job? He's in banking, and he doesn't know that bank teller jobs are pretty much extinct?

Coder? He doesn't read the news? Entry level coding jobs have either been offshored or taken over by AI (full disclosure: DC is a CS major0.

Has he tried living on $40K with a family, especially around NY where he's based out of?

I do agree with him about college, and how the goal of going to college for the vast majority should be about jobs. But, other than that, that guy is so out of touch it's ridiculous that should be telling people about what kind of jobs they should be getting.

OP,. You may be a bit out of touch. Welders, coders, automotive mechanics all make good money (70k). Most of America doesn't live in NYC. The out of touch people are UMC people who think that their DC with a 2.5 GPA in undergrad should be guaranteed a 100k job.

Jamie Dimon is a firehose of stupidity.

I get that it's a tough job market this year-- very tough for 2025 grads. But I don't think he's talking about the current job market as much as the equilibrium.

In 2024, there were about 400,000 tech jobs posted nationwide that requested 0-3 years of experience. In terms of bank tellers, the total number is going down, but retirements are high so there are expected to be about 27,000 openings a year in the next ten years.

? I specifically called out the bank teller job.

My dad was a machinist back in the 80s/90s and made $45K working the night shift when he retired. It was enough to live off of, but even so, $45K today even in middle America, is below the median income, certainly for a family.

I said nothing about "my DC with a 2.5 GPA should be guaranteed a 100K job". BTW, my DC has a 4.0 in undergrad as a dual CS/math major.

Unemployment for recent CS grads is above 6%. Bank teller jobs are going to decline much more rapidly in 10 years. Even if you were to get that job now, what would you do in 10 years? You have no training for anything else.

He is totally out of touch.

He always saying dumb things. The bigger issue is why people treat him like a font of wisdom.

I don’t think you know what this saying means. So not only did you fail to contribute anything to the thread and said something stupid; it wasn’t used in the correct context. Well done.

Dimon is a huge hypocrite. He refused to speak out about Trump, even when directly questioned and then had stories planted in the news about how his wife was out canvassing for the Dems. He didn’t know that it would be this bad, but he knew Trump wouldn’t be good…and he stayed silent and greedy.

Yes, exactly. I think his brain is stuck in the early 2000s or before, maybe.

I think for some, being a welder and the like is fine, but those types of jobs are hard on the body and certainly not for most people. Like I said, my dad was a machinist, and he retired at 62 even though the company asked him not to because he was really good at his job (his precision was unmatched). But, he said it was getting too hard physically. He's not a big guy, at all.

My brother is also a small guy, and he went into the military to help pay for college, barely passed basic training. When he got out, he went to college and ended up in the IT industry. My dad did not want him to be a blue collar worker, nor did he really want my brother to stay in the military. Both my parents had a rough life doing manual labor. Most manual laborers don't make it to 67, certainly not 69 if the Rs have their way.

Chase has 6,000 branches and opens new ones all the time. Look at DMV, none existed 7 years now a Chase branch is on every corner.

Unfortunately, this is another "privilege" of living in a UMC area. My kid actually applied back in January to start working during the school year, but we have 4 country clubs within about a 3 mile radius that are always hiring people...adults, teens, etc. My kid looked at their job postings online, applied for one, was interviewed and hired in like 5 days.

Good employee so bosses always asking if he has any friends that want a job...his friends' parents just don't care too much about their kids working so none are interested.
