Weird Restaurant Experience

Anonymous
So we went to Flemings Steakhouse for Father’s Day yesterday. My husband likes this restaurant and we’ve been there several times and had very good food and service.

About halfway through our meal, we noticed the unmistakable smell of marijuana. I think it was coming from the booth behind us, but we weren’t sure and didn’t want to cause a scene. There is no way the staff could have missed this smell, and we were hoping they would do something about it, but they didn’t. I mentioned the smell on our way out of the restaurant, but I don’t know if they did anything about it.

Obviously smoking in a restaurant isn’t legal in VA, but has anyone experienced this recently, and what did you do?

I would have called the police. Minors present and all that. I’d have complained to the manager in writing.

What’s the law in VA?
Not saying you’re wrong but might be up to the specific restaurant to handle as they’re a private business.
I would have told the server/manager OP and asked what their policy is.

What are you going to do? Call the police and say someone somewhere in this restaurant is smoking pot? I can smell it? I doubt you'll get a very quick response to that

Ok, Karen.

I just ignored it. I mean maybe if they were actively smoking it or something and I was breathing in the smoke. But just the smell of it? Not going to make a fuss about it or let it ruin our evening. And neither DH nor I use

You could have gotten up, walked around to try and spot the smoker, or called over a waiter and asked where the smell was coming from.

They probably smoked outside and their clothes reeked.

Unfortunately you cannot kick someone out of a restaurant just because they reek of marijuana. It's really too bad.

I'd have just asked to move. Someone probably smoked and then got seated near you and you were getting third-hand smoke coming off their clothes/hair/purse etc.

So we'd just have asked to move tables.

Disgusting and dinner ruining.

Flemmings is gross. I would expect no less than this type of situation.

Staff blazing up in the alley?
Or a customer spreading the skunk smell via their clothes.
More common that ever.
Don't get the fascination with the stuff. It just dumbs a person down even more than alcohol or SSRI abuse.

Pray tell, what is SSRI abuse? You sound extremely dumb.

I’d be annoyed too, but if you don’t use your words, they aren’t going to move you or do anything else.
