Tomorrow will be day four since I have had a bowel movement. I’m drinking only water, I’ve been taking a magnesium citrate supplement (Calm powder), I’ve tried prune baby food, prune juice, exercise, walking, abdominal massage, and still nothing. I do have a little gas today and feel a bit of rumbling, but I’m starting to feel uncomfortable and also a little nauseous at the thought of more food.
I DO NOT want to take a laxative, even a mild one like MiraLAX, because I’ve taken them before and while they work, I and up right back where I started, constipated again. What else can I try tonight to hopefully find some relief? |
| Smooth Move tea and prunes. |
Smooth Move is a stimulant laxative, it even wants you right on the box. |
| Prunes with melting hot butter. |
| Enema with very warm water. |
|
Drinking hot or warm water with lemon. Hot shower.
Peaches, pears and prunes. |
| You need to go to the OR. This can lead to a serious bowel obstruction. Don't be vain. They've seen it all. |
| Having a lot of fluids help me. Like four glasses of iced tea in one sitting. |
| Glycerin suppository. Instant relief. |
| Try a stool softener as opposed to a laxative. |
| Try Solgar magnesium citrate going forward rather than the Calm one. That should help keep you regular, although you may need to experiment a bit with dosage. In the meantime. I would do MiraLAX or something to get things moving faster. Once cleared out you can figure out a maintenance routine (which for me is Solgar mag citrate). |
| Senna aka Senakot. Take 2 at night. If nothing, 3 next night. |
| Coffee |
| Eat two Fig Newtons. I am not kidding. |

- Warm pear juice
-warm water with fresh lemon juice -first thing in the morning -warm prune juice with a bit of melted butter (recommended by med staff in a nursing home) -chia seeds /chia pudding -prunes -magnesium capsules -triphala -3 days doesn’t sound critical — unless you’re significantly uncomfortable. By “drinking only water” do you mean that you haven’t eaten anything? If so, then do chia seeds — and drink a lot of water, or stewed prunes tonight, then one of the hot drinks and magnesium tomorrow morning. I’ve never tried citrate of magnesia or an enema, but both could be effective options. The quickest of the options I’ve listed is the prune juice and butter. -Going forward, limit foods made from flour, increase oatmeal, greens, stewed fruit, lentils, and continue to drink lots of water. And think about adding preventive daily changes in your diet and exercise routines. Hope you feel better soon! |
