...and location.
So unfortunate that the Trump Jong Un military parade is stepping on JRs graduation, and that the location is *very* far from most JR families, tucked between Joint Base Andrews and Congress Heights. How are JR families planning to make this work? Beltway? Green line? Get a nearby motel Friday night? Also -- is it being live-streamed? Not for me, but I don't think the GPs are up for the in-person hassle. |
Why in the world is the graduation so far away?! That's crazy!!! |
I don't understand. Does the school not realize that it is a neighborhood high school? |
+1. Why in the world would JR have a graduation in Congress Heights? THAT is the issue - not whatever might be going on in town that day. |
Let's not be histronic. Graduation is at the ESA venue? Good. It should be used for more things! Do all graduations there! |
JR must have been planning for a year and then someone decides to bring in tanks on the same day. Frustrating. |
Uh no. Might as well have it in Baltimore. Just because DC invested funds in it does not mean that it is a reasonable location for a high school located in NW. |
It's too far. Not going to bother going. We'll have a celebration at home. |
The drive from my house -- right now, mid day, no unusual traffic, not everyone else in the neighborhood trying to get to the same place at the same time along the same traffic route during a stupid military parade -- if over an hour. I literally could get to BWI or Dulles faster right now. |
The fact that traffic is going to be completely snarled and half of downtown DC blocked off is also an issue... |
Here is the road closure notice:

Well, a long long time ago, when I graduated from Wilson, the graduation was held in the football field behind the school. It was hot. It was muggy. There were mosquitoes. And bleachers. I think graduates were limited to two tickets each — and I’m not sure what would have happened if it rained and everything had to be moved inside to the auditorium. Maybe it was 2 inside/outside tickets and two more for outside? In any event, families are often larger and more complicated these days, summers are hotter, and people are used to having air conditioning, seats with backs, and other creature comforts. There certainly are closer options. I’m not sure who arranges and pays for them though. |
White people problems. |
Really crappy timing - but the arena is really nice, if you have not been there yet for a Mystics game. It is also accessible via metro, but I imagine the metro will be horrible as well tomorrow. It is pretty close to National Harbor and not too far from Old Town Alexandria - could get a hotel there the night before and make a mini overnight out of it? |
No that is a distraction. If the graduation was held at that location on any other day it would still reflect the idiotic decision making that goes on in DCPS. |
