JR Graduation: unfortunate timing...

Anonymous
My high school graduation was in a large city auditorium downtown. It's pretty normal to have to travel a few miles for graduation if it means every graduate can invite ten people if they care to.

Now, the President could have scheduled the Military Parade on a different day since all of the graduations were scheduled long before his offensive and anti-democratic (not to mention destructive) parade.

The drive from my house -- right now, mid day, no unusual traffic, not everyone else in the neighborhood trying to get to the same place at the same time along the same traffic route during a stupid military parade -- if over an hour. I literally could get to BWI or Dulles faster right now.

I would argue that when this post was written close to 4pm is not 'mid-day traffic' - but more rush hour traffic. And even with that, it is still way closer than Baltimore. It is a nice arena, indoors, and probably allows more family members to attend, as was stated above. Believe it or not, you will survive the drive across town and across the river -- it is not the end of the world. Traffic will be annoying, but you cannot blame that on the school or DCPS.

Well gee. Who were the geniuses who selected this location so far from the school and the kids who attend it?

It is what it is, but to be precise, it's more than a few miles.

I'll note that Anacostia's graduation is at 9am the same day at UDC Van Ness. And Ballou's is 9am Friday at AU. The graduation schedule looks like it was done to make everyone's travel as inconvenient as possible.

That is truly nuts. What were they thinking?

No, just the graduations of the schools farthest away from it; not the ones actually nearby.

Banneker and Walls are back to back graduations at GW on Saturday. It is going to be a mess getting there.

Probably not. He attached his parade to the celebrations that the Army had been planning for quite a while. It would have been even messier and even more problematic if he had tried to schedule it as a stand-alone event.

It really does epitomize DCPS in the sense that it inconveniences literally thousands of people for no reason... but also makes me giggle.

That is going to suuuck.

That does suck. It also sucked last year on a weekday at rush hour, when they could have scheduled an hour-long commute mid-day.
