Loyalty to Clubs/Leagues

Anonymous
If you look around at this forum it is full of adults arguing about leagues and clubs. Why are people like this? Why do you care so much about a club and league? All you are doing is building someone's business at the expense of your own child.

This started with bringing your child to a tryout because they wanted to play a sport. And now you are wearing all the merchandise and getting red faced about ECNL being better than MLS Next...making it all about you. This is your hobby now and your kid takes a back seat.

This will be too close to home for some to reply......................

They've figured out that leagues are buildings build on s pile of sand. The only thing that keeps them standing up is the confidence of those participating and not participating.

Because if this they jump online endlessly posting to either try to either create doubt on other leagues or to try and inspire confidence in whichever league their kid plays in.

Its fairly simple.

The two of you figured DCUM out. Congrats! Get a room now, or are you two done?

The ultimate expression of this is when parents wear "ECNL hats". What they're doing is supporting a league over that club that their kid plays for. Likely because the club sucks but at least you can claim to be in the club.

Yeah...no. They should have never bought into anything to start with. Aren't they supposed to be the adults? This "fairly simple" answer still includes adults obsessing over leagues. It's pathetic. Support your child. If they turn out to be a quality player (by their own hard work and desire) then it doesn't really matter where they play. Its fairly simple.

Aye...I found one.

no loyalty to clubs or leagues, my kids play at different clubs and leagues, but... some clubs (as a whole) have better coaches and players and some leagues (as a whole) host more competitive play. You should choose what's best for your kids development.

I agree...parents should be as cutthroat as the clubs are. This is my whole point. Adults should be involved to support their kid and do what is best for them. But for these weak adults it becomes "their club" or "their league". Pathetic.

There shouldn't ever be loyalty, it's all a business. Remain a customer if the situation serves the child.

I agree and disagree.

International soccer is like a culture. Humans survived because our ability to be social and that instinct is built into the club model internationally.

Barca vs Madrid is way more politics, ethnicity and even language than just ⚽️.

I enjoyed the culture of our first club and I did learn the 🇺🇸 lesson that I should not put the club first. They had a great culture but not the best environment for the actual development of my child so now I am loyal to whatever club or league will develop my child best.

This post is really aimed at the ECNL crew. I don’t see MLS Next hats and car magnets but I sure see the ECNL and hear from them often.

You are a reasonable person. Thank you for existing. OP here and I happen to learn my lesson in the first month of my sons playing youth soccer. Invest in your kids. Bet on your kids. Leave club/league worship to the losers.

MLSNext is better than ECNL.

We are a tribal species. People like to root for their "team". It's as simple as that. When you are part of a club/league, work for a company, attend a school, live in a region, you tend to root for your own teams and against the others.
