White Nationalism in the US military

How bad of a problem is this really? It seems like every other day there is some story about a white nationalist with military ties. Now we are actively removing non-white military leadership and stripping away POC names from ships.

It worries me. Over the decades I lived that life, I saw a change. The older people were more professional and apolitical and were from all different parts of the country. The younger people were more political and religious, and came mostly from the south.

For example, I remember a new commander asking a very senior leader how he can share “his faith” with his troops if they came to him for help because his faith was “important to him.” The very senior leader basically said it’s ok for your faith to be important to you, but it doesn’t belong in the office because you run the risk of alienating people who have a different faith. Faith guy seemed offended (as they frequently and easily are) but I was thrilled that the senior leader was so reasonable and matter of fact.

Once saw a new Lt Col hang a Gadsden Flag on his base house. Ridiculous. It didn’t last long, I suspect the professional and apolitical highest ranking officer on base told him to take it down.

By the end of our time there, I learned that the new highest ranking person on base was an evangelical trumper and sharing this with the local business leaders . Huge foul. Wildly unprofessional. Won the hearts of the local community that was evangelical trump country, but outrageously unprofessional.

And that was just his first term. It’s gotten so much worse.

This. I don't care if people practice religion but there are many beliefs and faiths and we should respect them all. My mom would say to people who tried to sway her a different way in religion if you came to see me park your bible at the door and I'll make you a cup of tea if you came to change my mind about my beliefs don't bother coming in. My uncle was a Jehovah witness she respected his beliefs but wasn't changing hers or debating religion with him. We need this mentality.

Biden wasn’t president then. And it’s called professionalism. I realize this is a foreign term to MAGA, but it exists outside the cult.

Those of us who live in this millennium understand that its modern and current use is to express anti-government sentiment.

Besides the fact that it’s unprofessional, it made him look pretty foolish to have an anti-government flag on his government -owned house that he got to live in while doing his government job.

Just as prisons are segregated into Black, Latino, and White factions, so too is the military but not as open.

There are just as many Black militants in the military as White. The Latinos aren’t that worked up about things, they just want to party in peace.

Ancient history. The flag has now been appropriated by extreme right wingers, tea partiers and Trumpists and a symbol of their "movement", mistakenly thinking they are like the patriots of old, which we all know isn't true.
