| I'm looking at buying a new car but a bit nervous/shy to negotiate on price if MSRP is just the current standard. For those who have recently purchased, does it seem like there's any wiggle room currently?? |
| Check out Edmund’s.com. Put in the new car make model etc and get their TMV price. That’ll get you an idea if the car you’re considering is going near MSRP. |

Very brand/model dependent. My new car was $5500 off MSRP. You need to research the specific car(s) you are looking at. Google the name of the specific car including model year with the phrase “prices paid” and try to find a forum where people are sharing numbers.

| Thank you PPs, those were both very helpful!! --OP |
| I bought a honda civic hybrid for several thousand below msrp a few weeks ago. |

A couple of throughts.
Where you buy is pretty important. You get in a large metropolitan area, you may not have much leverage. Several hundred miles away, the deals in the landscape may be much different. Lot fees accrue. In some cases, dealers have cars stacked up in lots a few miles away from the dealership that they don't want you to know about. So, you might have to do some investigating on just how over or under supplied they are. Try to find days inventory and where it is in relation to half a year ago, a year ago, two years ago, etc. https://caredge.com/guides/new-car-inventory-2025 Also, you can focus intensely on price and then lose your shirt on financing. They'll give away a car if they can make it up in financing, fees and loans where you can't payoff early. They may not want you as a customer if you don't finance with them. NEVER tell them you're paying cash up front. Negotiate the deal first and resist their tactics to mix it all together. Videos like this may help also to get a sense of where the market is, but find a few different opinions on youtube. Inventory numbers are really important. https://www.youtube.com/@CQALive |
| Just got RDX and it was below MSRP. We got a good deal. Happy! |
Yeah it seems like most cars are discounted except maybe the current popular electric cars. I’m not sure because I didn’t shop any of those. |
At the end of the day, the Tyson’s dealership was willing to match any price I could get out in the boonies. I did have to leverage it though. |
| Last month I got a Lexus listed at $67300 msrp. I paid $68k out the door, so was able to negotiate most of the taxes/fees off of it. I maybe could have done better but the Edmunds/KBB fair purchase price was $65-67k before taxes, so went off of that mostly. |
| The local Toyota dealers have a $5000 MARKUP on the Highlander. We're looking to purchase in a different state. |
Toyota became literally insane the past several years. Markups on the Sienna are insane too. I was vaguely interested but not at their crazy prices plus needing to order one. The markup was also $5-8k depending on trim. I’m not playing those games. I got another Honda Odyssey and I am very happy. |
