It’s not. Academies and Clubs are all in the same league. It’s all MLS regardless.

MLS has made it fairly clear that they don’t intend to change - hence why USSF gave 2 options - one for rec and ECNL, and one for MLSN.

What’s so fascinating to me is that now we have the SY option for ECNL, why have so many of my fellow SY folks convinced themselves that EVERYONE needs SY and that only if MLS / GA go SY will they survive…

At first we wanted it for the trapped kids in ECNL and now we want everyone else to do it too?

If p2p MLSNs stay in BY, they are stupid, or it is just your wishful thinking. MLS2 will be the same cutoff as MLS. If MLS2 can play HS soccer, then SY is a natural choice.

Why p2p MLSN have to stay in BY, to please BY parents?

Huh? MLSN has their own reasons for being BY. What is the issue? Why does it matter to you?

I don’t understand the obsession with now needing everyone to be SY?

You don't understand because you are dumb. My kid's team will become MLS2. If MLS2 stays BY, how are we going to play a big tournament like the Surf Cup? Will we spend money to fly there and to play up and be destroyed?

They (USSF) and all the other big leagues are literally working on all the details for how that will work. MLSN is staying BY with biobanding option.

BY crowd is trying hard on mental gymnastics convince themselves MLSN will stay in BY. It is good for mental health for the next 2 months.

Why does anyone care if MLSN stays By? They have biobanding so your kids can play down now if you wanted?

ECNL and the other leagues are strict with following BY so it makes sense people would want them to change to whatever favors their kid.

Also for what it’s worth MLSN/GA are staying BY and GA will add “late developer” for all age groups.

What is "late developer"? How you can have a late developer at 17 on the girls side? Seems like a rule ripe for abuse. Just go SY or BY.

“MLSN and GA will go SY or they are stupid and will go out of business.”

MLSN and GA are doing fine, and are staying BY.

“Just go SY rather than bioband”

Why are you so concerned about their age cutoffs? Didn’t you get what you wanted for ECNL?

“Gah, if MLSN and GA stay BY it will cause confusion when it comes to tournaments”

USSF will help figure out rules around this.

“But I want everyone to do what favors my NPL / RL kid who is sure to be YNT call-up after this change”

Sure….

All the speculation about MLSN having to go to SY is wishful thinking from parents of Q4 kids who think their kid is suddenly gonna be signed by DC United academy because of this change.

💯

“Everyone has to agree with me, that little Timmy is the bestest, or I will throw a tantrum on an anonymous forum and accuse everyone of being a Q1 parent!😭🍼”

It's a legitimate question; how will they fuse the two registrations together?

Do they really need to "fuse" the organizations together? They're not actually "together" now by just having the same age registration.

It's still the same overall pool of players under the organization. The birth dates of kids doesn't change.

But they will be recruiting from a SY system, which if history is an indicator will lean more heavily towards Q4 kids in a few years. How will they be able to scout for a BY system at that point, they will have to have an actual feeder league, or the discontinuity wouldn't be worth it. They just put out a release saying their scouting has been off, hence the change to quality of play, why would they make that aspect even more difficult?

I personally think many people are overestimating this as a problem so extreme that it requires alignment with lower clubs. MLSN will likely prioritize with higher clubs - academy level, international academies, USNT, etc (international alignment was the main reason MLSN was in favor of the change to BY in 2016, and are still against changing to SY now).

MLSN likely won't care what "system" they're recruiting from. They're recruiting players based on skill, physical talents, decision making, and development potential, and already can base that off the quality of MLSN competition. They can invite the kid to ID sessions or to practice with the team. A Q4 kid could be dominating at the RCL level but still not be good enough for MLSN. Again, the actual birth date of a kid doesn't change and MLSN will know whether he/she is good enough, whether he/she is older or younger for his/her rec team. MLSN can recruit a standout from a church league if that kid is actually good. And kids who are good enough to play MLS Next basically have to play good enough to play a year or two up already.

These are logistical challenges and valid questions, but I don't personally believe MLSN's hand will be forced by this. They still no how to scout talent and recruit. And they likely would've announced already.

I could be wrong. And I won't be surprised if they do or do not change to SY. But the logistical challenges or evaluation concerns from the change won't be the reason.

You mistook p2p MLSN for MLSN Academy.

MLSN Academy will remain in BY. No one argues it.

p2p MLSN will be the same cutoff as MLS2, which should be SY to address to reduce trap player issues and better college recruiting. If they stay in BY, both MLSN and MLS2 will lose a lot of SepQ4 players, which means less revenue to club owners.

BY crowds are from p2p MLSN and worry about losing their status quo after p2p MLSN switches to SY. They won the mental gymnastics for the next two months.

Academies and “Next” are the same league genius.

Thank god! Finally a voice of reason. FIFA had to step in and make the change for everyone since USSF wouldn’t actually make a decisions. Now even Spain, France, Germany and Italy have to align with 68% of the US’s state school age cutoffs.

That should remove all doubt about MLSN and GA!

Now we just need to period FIFA to make the change for 25/26. No point in waiting anymore, just rip that bandaid off baby!

FIFA doesn’t mandate anything for the world youth system? There’s a reason each nation has its own system. This is just something someone made up to mess with people.

So are you saying because national teams and national ID camps are staying BY they are also stupid? At the end of the day MLSN/GA will fill their roster spots regardless of what the cutoffs are.

That’s all that matters can you field a team of paying customers. As long as MLSN is the top boys platform and affiliated with MLS they will keep getting high level players.

I know BY crowds still hold last hope that GA and MLSN not announce yet and some can definitely win mental gymnastics. You will all know in 2 months and possibly need some therapy.

850 pages just to tell us ECNL and GA is moving to SY. We get it. Keep the remaining pages until next tryout season and you easily reach 2000 pages.

Most are waiting to see what kind of transition, if any will happen next year. Or if the plan will be released after tryouts is the latest.

There was no transition with changing to birth year and there won't be one for changing to sy.
