DCpS need to eliminate drug use

Anonymous
we As parents, we are responsible for drug use, fighting, and bullying inside and outside of schools. Tenleytown is always with kids doing drugs and hiding in the subway and Target garages. The same thing in Hardy, MacArthur, where the directors and parents are waiting for? someone to be hospitalized for it.
They need to focus on those who are giving drugs to other kids. They are out of control, and seeing parents defend drug use is critical. They need to put these irresponsible events to the test.police dogs It would be a good option to prevent drugs from being introduced into the school. Parents should unite and do something now.

Where do you see parents defending drug use? I definitely don’t see that.

But I agree - Tenleytown is ridiculous after school. Kids vaping weed while walking to the metro and while gathered near the Target entrance.

I have never heard of drug use at Hardy.

Then it clearly must not exist.

Do you have knowledge of such? You realize the other places she listed are high schools and Hardy is a middle school. Not clear what her list is based on

I've had multiple kids at Hardy AND have a part-time role there.

I expect some kids there have taken drugs because statistics suggest that. But even then, that doesn't mean they took drugs at school.

It's true students are outside of schools doing drugs all the time instead of being in class. Just go to Tenleytown and outside both other Schools and you see them smoking all the time outside the subway and Parks..

How are schools supposed to keep kids away from drugs when they are not on campus? Work on your relationship with your kids, talk to them about drug use, figure out how to ensure the kids are able to come to you and not worry about the ramifications if they get in over their heads.

Neither "other" school has subway or Parks.

I have never seen students smoking outside Hardy. I see them in Safeway buying chips and being silly. I see them racing across Wisconsin when the pedestrian sign is already changing to red. I see them goofing around outside when the bell has already rung and they should be hurrying in. But smoking? No. I'm sure some of them vape or whatever; I just have never seen it by students near the school.

Anyway, the drugs conversation may be more productive if you drop Hardy from the line-up.

Why? There are definitely Hardy kids doing drugs, just like there are at any other MS and HS in the area.

Definitely? At Hardy and not away from school?

Where's your data?

OP doesn't actually focus on drug use IN school as opposed to during/around it.

Feel free to think Hardy is a unicorn.

Drug use by high school age children is way more prevalent than by middle school age children.

And most teens aren't taking drugs on Thursday afternoon at the bus stop. It's more sn evenibg and weekend thing.

So, yeah, presuming drug use near to J-R or MacArthur? Sure. But for a middle school, you are going to have to provide me data of a meaningful issue before I just presume it exists.

Well You need to look around and behind Safeway There are many homeless people smoking at the bus stop during school hours Probably you will find out why there were so many police around at 2 pm today outside Safeway? Always are older kids vaping.

So what is DCPS supposed to do about homeless people and older kids near a Safeway?

+1. I find it totally hilarious that some posters on here think middle schoolers are not doing drugs. Or that there are not drugs being sold at school, after school, etc…
