Here is something meaningful. Mass shootings are not the problem. The real problem is shootings. The solution to the real problem is to prosecute the criminals. The carjackers, the shoplifters, those found in possession of illegal firearms. Those who use guns in the commission of a crime. Put them in jail. Prosecute them as adults even if they are teens.

(I would also be in favor of better efforts to keep guns away from the mentally ill but when I am in one of our nation’s cities I tend to worry more about there lax on criminal legal systems then the poor system for blocking mentally ill people from getting guns.)

Yes, shootings are a problem in the US. Let's make sure they don't get into the hands of criminals and mentally ill. Close the gun show loophole, background checks for buyers. Make firearm safety training mandatory. Get rid of guns and ammunition that can pulverize 10 children's skulls in a handful of seconds.

New Zealand did this. And it left guns in the hands of criminals. Funny that, they did not cooperate

You’re just so insane and dishonest there’s no point in addressing anything you write or think.

DP.
You don't like the suggestions. PP is right. Law abiding gun owners are not the problem. Criminals are. The triggers don't pull themselves.
As long as prosecutors choose not to prosecute firearms laws, we are going to get more of it. Caught with a gun in the commission of a crime? Mandatory prison time. Caught with an illegal firearm? Mandatory crime. Stop reducing the charges to misdemeanors.

So there are two, two, two! NRA loving whores on this thread. Great work, boys.

Please cite with specificity and proof that prosecutors are soft on gun crimes. Please do it.

Two people brandishing firearms were shooting at each other in the Dulles Mall yesterday. The got one, the other they didn’t. Let’s see how old they are, if it was gang-related, and how its handled. There’s a fresh case in Loudoun County for you to follow.

In the old days these two might have had a fistfight or just a verbal exchange but now, with the easy access to guns, it’s so much more convenient to settle your beef with someone with a gun!

You didn’t answer the posed question. No specificity about lax prosecution for gun crimes. Shut your dirty lying mouth, thanks.

I’d rather have their crime rates than ours. https://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/compare/New-Zealand/United-States/Crime

This. Since it's acceptable to just shoot people in a crowded place in the public eye and guns are all over the place, no need for fist fights and knives anymore.

I hear you, but we did just live through COVID and saw what one party thought of measure to protect others....

What, masks and shots and this is the same as letting criminals and mass shooters have guns to slaughter children with to the point that they can't be recognized other than bits of clothing and DNA? Sorry, no, get over it, GOP is the party of child killer enablers with gun deaths the #1 cause of pediatric deaths in the USA.

+1 And the victims who survive still suffer forever. The Post followed up with the victims of the church shooting in Texas five years ago. People still have colostomy bags. They’ve had multiple surgeries over years. Women have too much lead leaching into their bodies so they can never get pregnant without causing brain damage to their babies. Just horrible.

New Zealand's gun homicide rate is vastly lower than ours.

Therapists should be required to accept insurance as a condition of licensing.

Nothing says too many guns like, Florida Man shooting a woman in the McDonald's drive through because her order was taking too long.

Have you seen the insurance reimbursement rates for psychiatrists? It’s like $75 and hour. I pay out of pocket and then submit for reimsbursement of what they will cover and it’s ridiculous if you’re seeing someone with an advanced degree so educational debt plus has to pay for office space and malpractice insurance and continuing educational training. Plus most don’t have admin staff to do the cumbersome paperwork for insurance. We already don’t have nearly enough people willing to do it. We should be paying loans back for all mental health providers plus adding a tax credit for them.
