Are your kids doing anything at school now?
My junior haven't done anything in History class, after taking the AP test. English class they are working on a project, and Econ class a final project they haven't done much all year. |
Once SOLs and APs end, FCPS schools are just hanging out and socializing. |
My SOL level kids are finishing up the last unit today and then will begin final exam review next class.
My AP level kids are working on a final project, which they will present during the final exam block. |
Finishing up last of SOL retakes this week. And also learning cursive handwriting. |
3rd grader finished SOLs last week. They did the final iReady of the year yesterday/today. They were told they'll be working on cursive and finishing out some math stuff but otherwise, I think they're "working on social skills" aka just hanging up with their peers until the end of the school year. |
One of the calendar options for next year in Loudoun was to end school by Memorial Day weekend, but not that many people voted for it. They'll be done with testing this week and still have three weeks of school to get through. |
IB juniors - still slammed with work - exams, retakes, submitting final papers, etc. |
My senior DD is watching movies in many of her classes. She finished AP exams and is just biding time until graduation. She’s enjoying the free time but feels ready to be done. |
My HS junior informed me yesterday there were only 5 kids in her oceanography class and there was a sub so she wanted to cut but knew I would be mad since she was just out sick last week a couple days. The seniors are mostly out on their 2 week internships. Junior work keeps getting pushed--grammar test moved to next week, capstone project due in June now...I don't know what they're doing. Tomorrow is a field trip. She doesn't want to go but says she wouldn't go to school either since no one will be there. |
My Gen Ed Junior is still slammed with assignments, quizzes, and tests. |
No new teaching happens in elementary schools after the end of April. Ever. |
Every year we get the same quesiton and every year we willg et different answers.
My kids ES continued to teach new material after the SOLs. Some of it was a preview for next year, like in math. Some of it was more "fun learning" like reading a book as a class and discussing it while writing about different elements of the book. There was more freedom for the teachers to develop lessons that reinforced material learned during the year in a more fun manner or to introduce material that the students would see in the followingyear. My kid has a lot going on at school as a 7th grader. They are reading a play in English, preparing for a final in Algebra, working on language skills in his language, and completing a unit in science. |
This is why a 4.0 GPA is now low because everyone is getting an A |
Not been my experience. My 5th grader is learning medieval history, building catapults and studying the physics of them for science, and studying for a massive vocabulary exam on all the root words they've learned all year. He is doing cursive, writing a skit, and doing end of year assessments. I don't know what he's doing in math, but as far as I know it's still happening because it's his favorite and he hasn't come home grumpy that there's no math like he did on SOL days. |
My kid in ES is still learning. They actually tell me what they did each day and the teacher sends weekly email. |
