Yale Professors flee to teach in Canada

Anonymous
I can't get it to link but it is an MSNBC article titled "Get Out sooner rather than later-Yale professors flee" They are not the first professors this year to sound the alarm on fascism and leave to teach abroad. At what point do we say enough-where are America's heroes. This is getting worse by the day. These professors have studied the history of dictators and authoritarianism around the world their entire career. They say America is here and in a full democratic emergency. Anyone with their eyes wide open and who knows and understands history knows they are correct. Now what?

Can they keep their tenure?

Leave if you can or need to.

Don't if you're willing to roll the dice.

My question is whether future elections will be allowed to continue with transparency. If not, that's when my family bails, unless we end up needing to sooner rather than later.

Depends on what deal they have worked out abroad / how famous they are.

My question is how fast will our freedoms and rights disappear. What is happening right in front of our eyes is in no way normal and no one is stopping it.

Most of us can't. Who is going to take us? What jobs will be offered to us in the new place? Will we have health insurance there? We are not independently wealthy.

They are professors who study authoritarianism and fascism. They are well known figures, and they likely (and realistically) feared they might become targeted by this administration.

I disagree with their decision to leave. They are abandoning the fight. Most of us do not have the choices they have or the money to just up and leave the country because we don't like the current regime.

I'm staying, and I'm joining the fight. This is OUR country, and we need to keep it a free democracy.

Our freedoms and rights are shrinking before our eyes. The arrests of immigrants are just test cases. Once they get away with kidnapping US citizens and shipping them off to foreign prisons, no one is safe. We can't let it get that far. Protests in red states and the judges are our best hope at the moment. The Democrats are worthless, wholly beholden to corporate interests. We need a new party that represents the middle class and poor.

Agree with what you are saying but I don't see a lot of fight and that is worrisome.

So what do we do-what is the plan?

Virtue signaling + scholarly validation + hammers in search of a nail

I’m starting to feel sorry for political hypochondriacs.

They will continue to fight, but from across the boarder. They have a direct threat against them, so it makes sense.

This is a BS take. I don't blame people for leaving Cuba under Fidel. Or Guatemala when the death squads were roaming. Why would I blame an American leaving if they can? Trump doesn't care about what you or I think and it remains to be seen whether anything we do will make any kind of difference.
