Law school applications

How much of a boost do the undergrads of a university get when applying to the law school within the same university? For example, NYU law school is probably a tougher admit than to the arts and sciences undergrad. So could that undergrad get into the law school through the back door?

Cornell undergrads who apply ED to Cornell Law School enjoy an admissions boost.

You need the stats and you need to convince them that you really want to be in law school. Lots of NYU undergrads will apply.

You also need to have a compelling story and be unique in some way. They don’t want a class full of UMC white suburban kids. They want a diverse class in every way.

It’s tough out there. My Phi Beta Kappa/174 kid never even got a response from their NYU law school application and was waitlisted or rejected from every other T13 they applied to.

Depends on the school and if a tip exists, it is likely minor. It is difficult to separate correlation (lots of apps from the undergrad) from causation (lots of undergrads ending up in the law school). I'm not aware that the data OP is looking for is published.

At any rate, OP, I would absolutely not choose an undergrad for the purpose of hoping to later apply to the institution's law school.

Nope. If they had worked a few years and then applied, that would have helped. But seriously, this is how hard it is right now. Ended up with nearly a full ride at a very good (but not T14) school, but people need to stop assuming that T10 is all about numbers. Law school admissions are just as holistic as undergrad now.

“Every way” does not include stats. Obviously. It means SES, race, gender, major, geography, interests, undergrad school, interests, life and work experiences.

While law school admissions is not "all about numbers", it is primarily about numbers. And, no, law school admissions is not "just as holistic as undergrad" admissions.

There is no early decision for law school.

Law school admissions is holistic but the LSAT requirements are pretty strict (unless you are URM or your dad is Al Gore or something like that).

There is no same school preference that I have ever heard of

And if your phi beta kappa kid got a 174 LSAT and didn't get into t14, they put something in their essay that indicated they didn't really want to go to law school.
