Reporting AP scores

Saw something on TikTok - about success reporting 3s and 4s this year with selective admissions (Ivies and T25).

(read the comments).....

I know Sara H from AN discourages reporting 3s and 4s, and it seems that that advice is now outdated (along with something else I learned recently on using resumes and the additional info section strategically - and only for the specific schools that will look at it).

Did your kid report 3s and 4s this past cycle and get into a selective school? It seems like the old advice is extraordinarily outdated and could be hurting the applicant.

Good question.
Idk anything about anything but my gut says to report 4s. Not sure about 3s.

Whats the newest advice on submitting resume and how to use additional info section?

My kid had all 5s and got in everywhere

DC did not receive any 3s or lower, reported 4s and 5s. Attending Ivy.

Agree, and also curious about the resume and additional info section.

I would report scores of 3 and above - as long as the 3 scores are not in the student’s major area. This also depends on your school. If your classmates are all getting 5’s then don’t report 3’s.

The word count on the additional information section was heavily cut (now 250 I think).

Sara/AN advises no resume. But some schools - Northwestern is one -
Actually like resumes - if you have very specific “specialized experience” that cannot be conveyed in 10 slots. Think debate, Stem awards etc
No more than one page. Don’t repeat anything in the activity list, but rather create a specialized resume.

Addition info:
If you don’t end up with a specialized resume, use this space to explain any specialized grouping of awards, voluntary summer programs, and independent research. In simple bullets.

AN tells its members not to use additional info like this, but certain T25 AO said this is exactly where they like to see fit to major - if not clear in EC list.

If you’ve hired a private college counselor, make sure they are attending the quarterly/regional IEC meetings where current T25 admissions officers are talking to private counselors about this and what they are seeing in the current cycle.

Sara H. & Co. should not be your main source of information.

My kids didn't report that actual scores (really there wasn't room for so much text), so they just put "AP Scholar with Distinction by end of Junior year." I think that gives enough information.

I would stay away from the social media/hustler influencer types and listen directly to the admissions office actual podcasts.

Most have that information out there will they will tell you exactly how they will look at AP scores. You don't want to listen to a 30 second tiktok edited mashup of clickbait nonsense. Get the information directly from the source.

Most IEC won't recommend attaching a resume, unless you fall into one of the below categories:

- extensive performance or theater/arts-related information
- volunteer and work experience that don't fit into the EC slots neatly
- other arts/music/performance ECs/commitments with various master classes, workshops, commitments, paid engagements, etc.

Resume should NOT repeat anything in 10 ECs - if it does, simply that don't include. And absolutely don't spend more time on the resume than on the 10 ECs....or simply refer to the resume in the EC listing - LAZY.
