Do you want Texas's school voucher program in DC or DMV?

Would it help or ruin public education?

I am in Texas. Most Texans don't even want it. It was passed with overwhelming opposition from voters. I do wonder if this will impact votes next year.

No, they've repeatedly shown this just ends up benefitting people who were already paying for private school so it's just a transfer of wealth to those who already had money.

I grew up in Texas and don't want it for them. Nor do I want it for Virginia where I am now.

I'm also in TX and can confirm this. No one wants this. Many of us already send our kids to private school because the public ones are horrible. Vouchers just ensure private schools will raise tuition by the voucher amount.

No, the tuition prices will rise by the voucher amount. It will just make wealthy private schools richer and take money from average and less wealthy public schools.

In Texas it will likely mainly benefit homeschool coops (current and future) who want to be paid to teach Christian-based learning. Not sure how common those are in the DMV.

And since they don't require the participating schools to teach the state standards, special education regulations, or the state testing then I would assume most private schools would participate so yes, the wealthier will get subsidized private education. But 10k is not enough for 'regular' people to attend most privates except maybe Catholics. The cost of attendance will probably go up more anyway.

This explains it very well.

Yes - this program would really help here in the DMV.

This only really benefits poor people.

The rich already send their kids to private school; they have no need for vouchers.

You mean rich people, like the Obamas?

This harms poor people. And middle class people too

Most people, even in the DMV, do not send their children to private school.

No, because the voucher doesn't cover enough of tuition for poor people to be able to use it. The rich people who were already paying the tuition either get a discount or the private school just raises prices to get the extra money from the voucher. Poor people do not get a benefit and then their schools lose money.
