In a couple of weeks DH and I head out on a vacation. We both thought we would have to work the day of departure, so we booked flights at 7pm with this in mind. Now we don’t have to work. There are still seats on an earlier flight, but they would be almost $300 more, and I don’t know if we can justify that cost just to have a couple extra hours at our destination. I know $300 isn’t a lot to most here, but it’s a lot to DH and me, on top of an already expensive vacation that we saved to take, and if we are spending $300, I think we can do better than an extra four hours at the hotel?
So how do we make this an adventure now? How can we make lemonade out of these lemons? |
wow |
Just spend the $300. You only live once. |
You could go to the airport early and see if they will put you on the earlier flight on standby. |
TWO WORDS: spa day |
Depends. Where are you going? |
Spending a couple days in Phoenix before taking a AZ/UT road trip. |
Just sleep in at home, take your time to finish packing and leisurely arrive at the airport. Sounds ideal rather than rushing from work to the airport.
You are overthinking this. |
Why not go see a movie near home with DH and get lunch together? A daytime date that wouldn't cost more than $50. |
I don’t see the lemons here. If you don’t want to spend the extra money to change your flight, just enjoy the fact that you have a relaxing day at home before your trip. You can pack the day of, which is nice, because then your clothes are less wrinkled. Sleep in. Go out for breakfast. |
+1 Soon we're going to have posts like: Should I keep my phone in my left pocket, or right pocket? I usually keep it in my left pocket, but on the plane I'm wearing pants that have slightly bigger pockets. I want to try out my right pocket but I'm just not sure. Does anyone have experience with this? |
I would call and ask for the change. Be incredibly polite. If you a frequent flyer with the airline, let them know. If your flight is close to being sold out and the other is wide open, they might make an exception. Last resort, if bad weather is expected, sometimes the airline allows passengers to make changes for free. Good luck. |
Get your house cleaned before you go on the vacation. Come back to a clean house.
|
Deeply water your plants so that they do well when you are away.
Clean your fridge. Stop your mail at the post office. Take out the trash. Get your cars washed, topped off. Set up your CCTV. Use the time to set up future medical appointments for routine care. Get a pedi, mani, massage. Get ahead on office work, but, don't send the emails out. Send it after you come back. |
You and DH must not like each other that much if you can't come up with any ideas with what to do with an extra few hours of time together. |
