I need some opinions!
Two parents, two teens 13 and 15 We are traveling and have two flight options. One gets us in around 5pm, the other, around 11pm. (No other options) Hotel is 20 minutes from the airport. We arrive on a Saturday, so I don’t think rush hour traffic at 5pm should be an issue, although it’s possible. If we arrive at 11pm, we can have a slower day at home, have a more leisurely dinner, and likely have a more quiet flight, fewer people checking in, then just get our hotel room and go to bed. I’m just picturing arriving at 5pm, with a 20 minute drive, everyone checking in because check in isn’t until 4:30 at this location, getting our room, everyone is tired and hungry, paying for overpriced hotel food (there’s nothing else that’s super convenient nearby.) Somehow having those extra six hours doesn’t seem like it’ll make the trip any more enjoyable? Thoughts? |
Where are you going?
How long is the flight? |
Also is there a time zone change? |
Why in the world do you need help with this? |
Why can't you go to dinner straight from the airport and then check in after?
Although it really depends on flight length, location, time zone changes, etc. |
Because many people are helpless and have to crowdsource EVERYTHING. That's why there are 104,329 different threads on "I'm traveling with 2 kids under 4 need advice" |
Miami, it’s just under 3 hours, no time change. We can’t go straight to dinner because we are Ubering. |
I am not helpless, I would figure it out without precious you. I’m just asking for advice for people who may have experience. If you don’t, that’s fine. |
If this is a summer flight, I am not a huge fan of late afternoon/early evening flights out of DC because of our very common thunderstorms at that time. I'd much rather take a 2 PM departure than an 8 PM one that gets delayed until 10 PM because the incoming plane was 2 hours late because of storms.
And if going to Miami, a restaurant can't possibly be that inconvenient. Check-in to the hotel online, drop your bags, go to dinner, enjoy a walk along the beach, go to bed. |
I would do the 5 o’clock flight because if any problems happen, you will get bumped to the 11 PM flight.
Also, I’d much rather arrive at my destination at 5 PM than 11 PM |
5pm.
I hate arriving late and if there are delays there is a higher chance flight will be cancelled. When I am traveling for vacation I just want to get to where we are going vs sitting around all day waiting to leave. Your kids aren't toddlers and can handle arriving at dinnertime. |
+1. The last flight of the day is always a risk! |
Seriously. Of course you can. Uber to restaurant. Then Uber to hotel. Good God. |
NP. Didn't you just write that you can't go to dinner because you're taking an Uber to the hotel? Problem solve. Wow. |
Yet here you are. ![]() |
