So much for the “special relationship.” Less than half of Brits now view the U.S. as an ally, according to a new poll, which comes after President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on the U.K. and most of the rest of the world

In the More in Common poll — conducted April 4-7 — 43% of respondents said they see the U.K. and U.S. as allies. Meanwhile, 34% said they are neither allies nor enemies, and 15% said they are enemies[/quote]

Well this is what Trump wanted. Hate to see what the numbers for the rest of Europe and Asian(Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand) are.

How long after a new Administration comes in do we think it will take to restore our relationships with our biggest (ex) ally countries?

Why does this matter? Serious question.

It will take 50-75 years. All trust has been lost.

Allies help the US with its difficult relationships. All of the US's allies imposed sanctions on Russia after the invasion of Ukraine. That helped America's interests (back before America was allied with Russia). Allies participated in the invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Most importantly, Americas allies are rich and buy the US's goods and services. In case you are not aware, there is a movement in the EU to put the EU flag next to EU produced goods. That allows people to avoid purchasing US goods. The same thing is happening in Canada.

Finally, the US's destruction of its relationships has caused US tourism to crater. US tourism represents a significant percentage of its GDP.

The US is very strong and powerful, but it will be significantly weaker and poorer without friends.

Never. You can't build relationships with anyone who can change from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde every 4 friggin years.

Why should we see Britain as an ally when they put people in jail for their speech?

The most common name in the UK for the last decade-and-counting is “Muhammad”.

It’s not really a surprise that public opinion of the US is falling in the UK. The UK is quickly changing.

When 9/11 happened, who had the US's back? NATO, including the UK.
Who are our largest trading partners?
Who send the most tourists to the US?

Do you think the US is alone in the world? Do you think the US can be great if people don't want to visit and spend money here, if people are not buying our products and services?

The democratic countries around the world have no respect for Trump and our government for good reason. After the Popes funeral there was a room full of leaders standing around the edges of the room. There were quite a few people there. Leaders were introduced and people clapped. Zelensky came in and he got a big applause. Trump came after him and there was dead silence. Not even some random polite clapping. Trump was given zero respect while Zelensky, the man without the suit who JD Vance snickered at got a roomful of respect and love.

How is this surprising? More than half of the US think he’s doing a horrible job. If we don’t like him, why would we be surprised that they don’t either? He’s completely erratic and untrustworthy.
