Going The Distance

In case you haven't seen Taylor released a bizarre music video with a song from 1996 called Going the Distsnce by a band not many parents and maybe less than 1% of students would remember called Cake. Truly a let them eat Cake moment when there is so much wrong at school. Aside from being completely weird to begin with, only a small handful of schools were mentioned in the video. I think Damascus and Clarksburg and some other school.

My first question is, who is paying for this strange music video?

My second question is, is Taylor ... off?

Thanks for calling our attention to this OP. For those who missed it, here's the link: https://youtu.be/VwIE6Pul1sQ

I think it's fine, and a much more playful approach than previous superintendents to reminding kids that they need to lock in for the rest of the school year.

These "quirky" music videos were part of the "appeal" of hiring Taylor for the Board. They think it's "fun."

I mostly think it's cringey, dad humor that performs relatability but doesn't translate into him actually being more approachable and real. But hey, this is MCPS. We only care about the optics, not the outcomes.

The time spent sitting down and planning the video, getting the students and schools whonperform in them etc is making me physically angry.

Use your time as superintendent to solve some actual problems-- of which we have many. This is tone deaf!

So cringe….

Cake was huge in the 90s. I'm sure lots of parents remember it

Sir, yes, sir. Should the teachers also stop picking fun fonts and slides for their lessons too? Do classroom decorations make you shake with rage? What is one problem you think he could have fixed in the few hours he made this video?

Fun fonts are actually distracting. It's odd how little people in charge of learning seem to know about how the brain learns.

So there we have it. With the few hours it took to make the ultimate cringe video that no one except OP watched, Taylor could and should have put together a nice explainer about how unexpected fonts are a hurdle to learning except for the new ADHD font for adhd kids.

Or maybe he could have sat down with the new head of it and had her implement a style guide for digital fonts. Or make an option for adhd kids to have long text rendered in the ADHD font.

All much better uses of the time than the cake video production team.

Crazy because some fun fonts like comic sand are actually EASIER to read by dyslexia students. Good thing teachers don't have to listen to those who know nothing about educating children.

It was stupid.

Not my style, but it did not take as long as you might think to make this video. It's interesting that we have a superintendent who actually interacts with MCPS students, which hasn't happened in quite some time.

That was one of my favorite songs from college. Seeing it from my kids’ school system kind of ruined the vibe of the song. I feel old.

Good lord in heaven there is nothing that you all won’t complain about.
