Where would you think is best?

Just turned 18 dcs going to Europe: they are thinking either Belgium/Netherlands or Italy or Switzerland as side trip from main trip to France to see family. What would be the safest/most fun/cheapest for them and which specific cities? I've done all of these but ages ago.

When I went to Europe after hs graduation, I went to France, and in addition to Paris and Provence, traveled into the French Alps (Annecy is beautiful), and then traveled into Switzerland. I loved it.

And where in France is the family they are visiting?

Those are some of the most expensive places in Europe (minus Italy). With budget flights so readily available why not go somewhere in Eastern Europe? Much much cheaper and still safe.

Italy for sure.

I lived in Belgium for a couple of years and have spent a ton of time in the Netherlands. They’re nice but not mind-blowing. Italy is incredible.

Switzerland is the safest, and also the most expensive. It is also the most beautiful by a mile, although Northern Italy is also attractive.

In Switzerland, take trains everywhere, and stay mostly in the Alps. Interlaken and the Lauterbrunnen Valley area (Wengen, Murren) and good home bases for day excursions for hiking.

Wasn't expecting that! Hope their French is okay - that's the type of area you probably won't have that many English speakers, relatively speaking.

I'd go somewhere around the French or Italian lakes near the Alps- Annecy, Maggiore, Como, Lugano.

It’s a jubilee year in Italy, so crowds are expected to be higher than normal. (Assuming this is for this summer)

Maybe beach towns in Italy or Spain? The beach towns on either side of Genoa are great, as are the ones near Girona in Spain. Within pretty easy reach from Lyon by train.

For teens? Boring! When I was 18 my friends and I spent the summer in the south of France (our base was Juan les Pins, near Antibes) - beaches and local tourist activities by day and the super fun bars and clubs every night. And then to Rimini on the coast in Italy for similar. But what do they like doing?
