What season?

summer

How many days?

And where in France is the family they are visiting?

Clermont-Ferrand. And they are flexible on time bc they are staying for a month and a half.

Wasn't expecting that! Hope their French is okay - that's the type of area you probably won't have that many English speakers, relatively speaking.

I'd go somewhere around the French or Italian lakes near the Alps- Annecy, Maggiore, Como, Lugano.

For teens? Boring! When I was 18 my friends and I spent the summer in the south of France (our base was Juan les Pins, near Antibes) - beaches and local tourist activities by day and the super fun bars and clubs every night. And then to Rimini on the coast in Italy for similar. But what do they like doing?

They want to sightsee, go to museums, eat (they love food and cooking), shop around. They are not into beach or partying. Because of the Jubilee (thanks to whoever posted this!!) they are thinking maybe crossing horizontally instead from Florence to Venice with stops in Parma and Bologna and avoiding Rome. They had thought about Naples for Pompeii but it feels far.

Belgium & Netherlands are okay, but Switzerland, Austria, & Italy are outstanding for natural beauty.

Switzerland.
We were just in Switzerland ( Zurich as base) and now in Berlin. We have a tween DD. Switzerland is beautiful and much easier to navigate as an English speaker.

If they like food southern Europe is where to go, way more exciting. Switzerland or Belgium at 18? Snooze fest.
